Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche’s Charitable Donations
With great aspiration, while benefiting and liberating sentient beings from the suffering sea of reincarnation in this Age of Degenerate Dharma, His Eminence Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche has auspiciously demonstrated how to implement the Dharma in one’s everyday life. Since 2005, each time he has successfully presided over the Drikung Kagyu’s auspicious earth terma Tantra—the Great Indiscriminate Amitabha Puja for Transferring Consciousness—as well as the Grand Memorial Puja for Lord Jigten Sumgön, all proceeds from offerings made by the attendees to Rinpoche have, in their entirety, been donated to the Department of Social Affairs at the Ministry of the Interior for charity toward social welfare programs, thus allowing all participants an opportunity to do good deeds and accumulate good fortune.
After a restructuring of government branches that occurred in 2013, disaster relief services, which were originally under the scope of the Department of Social Affairs at the Ministry of the Interior, were transferred over to Account 302, which operates to this day under the Social and Family Affairs Administration, Ministry of Health and Welfare (henceforth to be abbreviated as SFAA). Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche has continued to make large financial and material contributions to the Ministry of Health and Welfare and its subsidiaries so that whenever any major calamity occurs, the most immediate and direct help can be provided to victims straightaway. Past examples have included the flooding from Typhoon Morakot in 2009 and the 2014 gas explosions that occurred in Kaohsiung, the Formosa Fun Coast dust explosion in New Taipei City in 2015, and so on. Mindful of Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche’s benevolence, the relevant government departments have issued Rinpoche with a special login registration and even special letters of gratitude expressing their thanks to him. Over the past decade or more, Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche has donated at least NT$84,630,000 toward various social charities and welfare programs. Not only has he made ongoing contributions over the long term to special government accounts to provide help for people in need in every corner of society, but sometimes he has even made direct donations for the immediate relief of locations requiring assistance. For example, straight after the Tainan earthquake of 2016, Rinpoche donated NT$1 million on behalf of the His Holiness the Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang Buddhism Foundation, and personally contributed another NT$1 million. Simultaneously, under the auspices of the Glorious Jewel Group and the Glorious Jewel Buddhist Cultural Exchange Association, further contributions of NT$1 million and NT$500,000 were made, respectively. In 2018, when an earthquake struck Hualien, Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche again made a donation of NT$5 million to help victims rebuild their homes. The guru is always teaching his disciples to implement the Dharma in their daily lives, and that doing good deeds is the most basic prerequisite of being human. Moreover, Rinpoche practices what he teaches by leading the way to show care for society, and uniting everyone’s strength toward the great ocean of the public good.
Well-cultivated and eternally compassionate, Rinpoche has put Buddhism into practice in the mundane world, causing people to be inspired, full of praise, and rejoiceful!
