Brief Introduction to Glorious Jewel Buddhist Center
After propagating Tibetan Buddhism in Taiwan for many years, Venerable Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche felt a greater urgency to reach out and help the suffering, so he established and opened Taiwan’s “Glorious Jewel Buddhist Center” to the public in 1997. His Holiness the 37th Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang personally endowed the name “Glorious Jewel” in remembrance of Lord Jigten Sumgong. His Holiness also issued a certification accrediting Taiwan’s “Glorious Jewel Buddhist Center” as Drikung Kagyu’s home site.
Originally, Glorious Jewel Buddhist Center was registered as a corporation of “Taipei Glorious Jewel Buddhism Culture Exchange Association.” It had only 150 members, all converted disciples to Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche, in 1999, while by 2003 year end the number increased to over 300. As more and more people from all parts of Taiwan came to Taipei for regular teachings, the association became a nationwide organization and reapplied to the authorities as “Glorious Jewel Buddhism Culture Exchange Association, Taiwan R.O.C.” In central Taiwan, Douliou City Chapter was set up in the same year. Its inauguration ceremony was chaired by the His Eminence Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche and the Venerable Lhochen Rinpoche. In 2004, to accommodate more and more disciples taking refuge under Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche, a new gathering venue was purchased, which covers around 1000 square meters and is located at “17F, 136, MinQuan W. Rd., Taipei, Taiwan.” Accompanied by several rinpoches and lamas, His Holiness Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang came to Taiwan to preside over the Inauguration Ceremony in May, 2004. With almost 1000 disciples, the Glorious Jewel Buddhist Center is now considered as the biggest Buddhist center in Drikung Kagyu Lineage.
The Venerable Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche held regular Dharma teachings and performed “Chod” puja on a regular basis. “Chod” is one of the most sacred and extraordinary tantric practices in Tibetan Buddhism. When people attend the puja, their deceased relatives and to whom they owed karmic debts are summoned by the practitioner of “Chod”. The practitioner visualizes his own bone, flesh, blood and brain turning into nectar and offer to the deceased. After their desires were granted, they would then adhere to the advices of the practitioner to be transcended to the Pure Land by Bodhisattvas or to be reborn to a better realm. For the past years, countless believers and disciples experienced incredible changes in their health, family and career relationship by regular attendance. There are nearly 900 people attending the puja currently and some of them are even from Japan, India, Australia, etc. Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche is the only master that could accomplish “Chod” for hundreds of people simultaneously.
In regular Dharma teachings, Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche transmits true Buddha’s teaching and admonishes the disciples to practice Buddhism in their daily lives. Moreover, Rinpoche performs irregularly various tantric practices to pray for blessings for believers and disciples.
For many years, all converted disciples, their relatives, and countless sentient beings have received tremendous help from Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche, relieving their pains in both body and mind. Many incredible miracles and touching stories truly happened in Glorious Jewel Buddhist Center. All disciples have gratitude for Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche with all their heart.
