Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche Donates to the Disaster Relief Fund for Victims of the Hualien Earthquake

On February 6th, 2018, a major earthquake occurred off the east coast of Taiwan, registering a 6.0 on the Richter scale and hitting Hualien with a magnitude of 7.0. It caused severe damage to the city center, and several large buildings collapsed. At present, 17 people have been reported dead and 285 injured from this extremely disastrous calamity. With their homes destroyed, many local residents were separated from their family members and left out in the cold wind and rain; with nowhere else to go, they could only stay in temporary shelters. Physically and mentally traumatized, with helpless faces full of fear and exhaustion, the disaster victims were in urgent need of assistance.

In his great compassion, and despite still requiring enormous funds to complete the construction of a Buddhist temple in Miaoli, Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche believed the more important and pressing matter was to relieve these victims’ suffering. As such, he has donated NT$3 million, and his business, the Glorious Jewel Group, has donated a further NT$1 million. On top of this, the Buddhism Foundation of His Holiness the Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang has donated NT$1 million as well, all in the hope of helping the victims of the Hualien earthquake to rebuild their homes as soon as possible!
