Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche wishes that this book could help people eliminate their afflictions, and obtain the bliss by understanding the essence of happiness and suffering of the daily life.
Prior to writing this book, Happiness and Suffering, Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche has implored his root guru His Holiness the Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang for advice and foreword. The Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang granted Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche’s pleading since the Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang realized immediately after reading this book that it is a language prajna. The Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang’s grant of his writing the foreword for Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche is a blessing which symbolizes Buddhas and Bodhisattvas’ recognition that this book would benefit sentient beings. Therefore the reason why everyone has so much benefit from these simple words of this book is because of the blessings from Buddhas, Bodhisattvas and the Drikung Kagyu Lineage.
In this book, Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche does not talk about rare Buddhist terms and abstruse philosophies. Instead, Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche lively leads the readers to understand the true essence of happiness and suffering with many examples of implementing Buddha Dharma in daily life. Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche not only carefully edits the contents of this book (of Chinese edition), but also personally designs the cover of the book that implies profound states and meanings of the Buddhist practice. Likewise, the contents of 272 pages of this book (of English language edition) are concise with deep meaning. This book has obtained tremendous response since it was published. Besides disciples, no matter you are a Buddhist or not, many people gain immense benefit and wisdom from the great practitioner and make themselves face all daily life’s happiness and suffering with more healthy and correct attitude.

Recommendation Foreword in Tibetan by His Holiness The 37th Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang
Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche, a disciple of the Drikung Kagyu Order of Tibetan Buddhism and founder of the Glorious Jewel Buddhist Center in Taipei, Taiwan, has always piously supported, maintained, and protected the Drikung Kagyu Lineage. Most recently, he has written, and published, Happiness & Suffering, a book that introduces the reader to the essence of Buddhist teachings in a comprehensive, concise, and easy-to-understand fashion.
The insights offered in this book will undoubtedly help practitioners to better deal with the difficulties that they encounter in their everyday life. Rinpoche’s discussion of the Dharma arises from a deep understanding of the practices of both the Common, and Uncommon, Vehicles of the Buddhist tradition. His teachings are drawn from such Common Vehicle Practices as: appreciation of the preciousness of rebirth in human form; realization of the impermanence of birth and death; acceptance of karma and the laws of cause and effect; comprehension of the suffering of Samsara; and cultivation of the compassion and bodhichitta of the Mahayana. Inspiration also comes from Uncommon Vehicle practices such as: performance of immeasurable piety and devotion toward the tantric Vajra Guru; recitation and visualization of the non-dual practice if Mahamudra; and perfection of all the major practices – with special importance placed upon the experience derived from Rinpoche’s own practice of the Dharma.
Happiness & Suffering is a book that will help practitioners to better deal with the challenges of the modern world. It can be used as a guide to implementing the wisdom of the Buddha’s teachings into one’s everyday life and cultivation practice. It is my wish that the publication of this book will lead to the elimination of obstacles that lie between the reader and his, or her, attainment of liberation from suffering.
