Chod Puja on the Sagano scenic train in Kyoto, Japan, 2007
In mid December of 2007, H.E. Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche led 300 disciples and believers to Kyoto, Japan. By the request of the president of the Sagano Scenic Railway, Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche held a chod puja for transferring consciousness on the running Sagano scenic train.
An auspicious sign of a solar flare was seen on the morning of the puja. With the mandala in the first car of the train, Rinpoche sat on the Dharma seat while the train was running along the Hozu River. He then conducted the practice to transfer consciousness for the deceased along the scenic line in thousands of years, as well as the innumerable beings in the universe.
This chod puja, held on the running Sagano scenic train, was an unprecedented event not only in the history of Tibetan Buddhism but also in world history. During the puja, all the attendees felt an unusual chill, announcing the arrival of numerous beings, who came to receive Rinpoche’s help for transferring consciousness. What’s more, the sky revealed a holy image of Ksitigarbha during the puja, indicating the fact that Rinpoche’s great determination and compassion had no boundaries when he wanted to benefit all sentient beings.
