His Eminence Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche’s Puja Teachings – May 24, 2026
His Eminence Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche ascended the Dharma throne and entered chanding (Puja Teachings Index 06) momentarily, and proceeded to recite the Great Six-Syllable mantra for a long time. While Rinpoche recited the mantra, his sacred body and the mandala emitted a brilliant golden light, many attendees felt their whole bodies grow warm, while a miraculous fragrance permeated throughout the room, all was bright and illuminating, appeasing all vexations.
Next, while Rinpoche prepared the liturgy for the Chod puja, the attendant handed over the list of names for consciousness-transference, and Rinpoche, immediately noticing that something was wrong, asked the attendant why the booklet covers for both lists were titled ‘deceased’? Rinpoche immediately instructed the matter to be thoroughly investigated. After the attendant verified the matter with the disciple responsible for making the lists, one of the ‘List for Attendees’Generations of Ancestors, Parents of the Six Realms, Karmic Creditors’ for Consciousness-Transferences’was mistakenly titled as ‘List of Deceased for Consciousness-Transference.’
Next, Rinpoche asked, ‘Who made this typo?’ Disciple Huang, who was responsible, replied that she and Disciple Chiu had made the error, and Rinpoche instructed them to stand up. Rinpoche asked, ‘Are you two trying to curse these people to death?’ Rinpoche then asked Disciple Lai, ‘Why are they responsible for creating the list? I’ve never heard of them—who elected them?’ (Disciple Lai replies: It was passed by the Board of Directors.) Rinpoche asked, ‘Why were they elected? For how long have they been doing this?’ (Disciple Huang replies: Seven years.)
Rinpoche asked, ‘Who was responsible before them?’ (Disciple Lai replies: previously, another Disciple-Huang was responsible.) Rinpoche asked this disciple, ‘Who instructed you to hand over this duty to the two of them?’ (Reply: It was passed by the Board of Directors.) Rinpoche asked the chairman of the Board of Directors, ‘When did you become the chairman of the board?’ (Reply: For two years.) Did you know about the transfer of duties to these two? Who agreed to it? And on what basis? (Disciple Lai replies: At the time, Disciple Huang was pregnant and not feeling well, so she stopped doing the job.)
Rinpoche asked Disciple Huang: How bad is your health condition? (Disciple Huang replies: I am not in poor health.) Rinpoche: Disciple Lai said you were in poor health! If you don’t want to volunteer, you can simply say that you don’t want to. Why did you make up an excuse, saying that you’re in poor health? (Disciple Huang: Yes, I was wrong.) The cause and effect you have created will definitely result in poor health!
Rinpoche then asked the general director: These two people, on what basis did the Board of Directors assign them to this task? (The general director: They have been responsible for this work for quite some time.) On what basis did you put them in charge? Because they are disciples? Because they can write? (The general director replies: It was my fault.) Have you supervised them? Today, after I complete performing the Dharma, I will stop ascending the Dharma throne from next week. You people are talking complete nonsense! You actually wrote a roll saying that all those people are dead. The karma the two of you have created is extremely heavy! The moment I stop paying attention, you get into trouble. What kind of directors are you? You’re all a bunch of jerks! Correct it immediately! The two of you have cursed people to death. Let’s see how you’ll repay them in the future! Right now, can I simply assume that the two of you are dead and transfer your consciousnesses? Take it and correct it immediately!
At that moment, two other people went over to help. Rinpoche asks: What are those two doing over there? What does this have to do with you? Those two made the mistake, why are you going over there? Normally, you don’t pay attention. Today, you’re putting on a show. After waiting for a while, Rinpoche asks: How much longer do we have to wait? (The general director replies: Three minutes.) After the correction was completed, an attendant presented the revised roll.
Rinpoche then instructed the two disciples who had made the mistake on the roll to begin doing full prostrations, and instructed Disciple Huang, who had previously claimed to be ill, to leave. Because you lie and broke the percepts! (Disciple Huang: Yes.)
If you do not want to do it, you can say that you do not have the ability to do it. Yet you even say that your health is poor! I truly don’t want to be Rinpoche anymore, I am retiring. All are a bunch of scoundrels. Every one of the directors lives a comfortable life. Before the list was submitted, why did you, as directors, not take a look at it first? During meetings, you say that you’re the general director. Is being the general director really that easy? You, Dharma Affairs Team, are also a bunch of scoundrels. Before submitting it, why didn’t you review it first?
This means that none of you value Dharma, what are you attending the puja for? Those who registered today, the family members of the deceased whom I agreed to transfer consciousness may stay, others leave. Immediately! Move quickly! All members of the musical instruments team, leave. I don’t want any of you! No offerings are allowed! (Except for the disciples and believers who had recently been granted permission for liberation for their deceased relatives, everyone else left the center.) Rinpoche began to perform the Chod liturgy. When Rinpoche blew the Dharma instrument, many people still blocked the doorway. Rinpoche expounded: You are still blocking the doorway. Later on, when the ghosts enter, you will be doomed. Go ahead and keep walking slowly! Those two doing the full prostration leave as well. (The crowd immediately cleared the aisle and quickly left the center.)
Rinpoche once again blew the Dharma instrument to call forth sentient beings and performed the Chod Dharma. After Rinpoche had perfectly performed the Chod, Rinpoche performed the Dharma Protector Achi Liturgy.
After Rinpoche had perfectly performed the Dharma, Rinpoche said to the attendants: You simply don’t pay attention. If you had taken a look, what happened today would not have occurred. I really don’t understand you young people.
Rinpoche is compassionate (maitrī and karuṇā) and rigorous. All matters are acted in accordance with the Buddha Dharma, and every place is for the sake of the sentient beings. The prudence with which Buddha Dharma and the karmic causes and conditions of sentient beings must be treated, allowing not the slightest negligence. The disciples are grateful for Rinpoche’s compassionate (maitrī and karuṇā) teachings, which deeply awakened and alerted the disciples that learning Buddhism must be reverent, careful, and must never be taken lightly. The disciples must constantly remain vigilant and reflect upon themselves, and follow the teachings.
