His Eminence Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche Held the Refuge-Taking Ceremony and Presided over the Guru Puja to Perfect Completion at the Glorious Jewel Buddhist Center in Taipei
June 21st, 2025, was Drikung Kagyu’s Founding Guru, Lord Jigten Sumgong’s (parinirvana) anniversary. The pure Dharma lineage of Drikung Kgyu has spanned over 800 years without interruption, and in order to commemorate and express gratitude for the compassionate blessings and teachings from the lineage gurus, His Eminence Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche presided over the Drikung Kagyu Guru Puja Liturgy on this special and incomparably wondrous day, so as to make offerings to the lineage gurus. Before the puja began, Rinpoche first held the Refuge-Taking ceremony for 20 believers, which was the first ceremony of this kind in two years. Rinpoche urged and encouraged these new disciples to abide by the precepts rigorously and follow the guru resolutely to learn the true Dharma and transcend reincarnation.
During the puja, Rinpoche made a point of explaining the importance of making offerings to the guru—all of one’s good fortune for practicing Buddhism comes from making offerings to the guru, and one must receive the verbal transmission of mantras and heart Dharmas in order to understand how to practice. Furthermore, only under the guru’s blessings can one prevent the fall into the three evil realms and be reborn in Amitabha Buddha’s pure land. Rinpoche painstakingly exhorted all disciples that to realize the true essence of Buddha Dharma one must be absolutely reverent and respectful towards the guru and make offerings to the guru with a pure heart so as to accumulate the good fortune for learning and practicing Buddhism.
