His Eminence Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche to Preside over the “Acalanatha Fire Puja” in Japan

On May 25th, 2014 His Eminence Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche, abbot and guru of the Glorious Jewel Buddhist Center, will be presiding over the auspicious “Acalanatha Fire Puja” at the Glorious Jewel Buddhist Center in Kyoto, Japan. Participants will include distinguished Japanese guests and disciples as well as disciples and believers from the Glorious Jewel Buddhist Center in Taiwan. This puja will be held not only to commemorate the sixth anniversary of the consecration of the Glorious Jewel Buddhist Center in Kyoto, but also to pray for blessings for, and increase the good fortune of, the Japanese nation and its people.

Acalanatha has a particularly profound affinity with Japan, where the yidam is widely revered by way of offerings and worship. In addition, the Glorious Jewel Buddhist Center in Kyoto has specially enshrined a statue of Acalanatha that Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche respectfully brought there years ago from Yunnan. It shows the profound affinity that exists between Acalanatha and Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche as well as the Glorious Jewel Buddhist Center in Japan.

The “Fire-Offering Ritual” is a very auspicious tantric Dharma within Tibetan Buddhism that can only be performed by a practitioner whose fruition level is as high as that of a Rinpoche. This time Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche will be performing the “Acalanatha Fire Puja,” with Acalanatha as the main yidam to whom the Fire-Offering will be made. This ritual is part of the Subduing method, one of the four Dharma methods that include “Subduing, Increasing, Placating, and Vanquishing.” The Fire-Offering Ritual is incredibly effective in the appeasement of ghosts and demons, the prevention of disaster, and in bringing about good fortune. It can also help to subdue the demons of death, illness, heaven, and affliction, as well as eliminate hindrances to practicing Buddhism.

Whenever His Eminence Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche has presided over the Fire-Offering Rituals held at the Kyoto Buddhist Center in the past, all sorts of auspicious signs have appeared in the flames above the mandala. These have included auspicious images of Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche performing the Dharma while sitting in a stately manner and of the arrival of the Acalanatha yidam, as well as images of the Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, devas, nagas, and Dharma protectors. All of these are manifestations of Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche’s awe-inspiring, benevolent power and attunement with the yidam while performing the Dharma, bringing all of the devas, nagas, and Dharma protectors forward to give praise and protection as a result of Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche’s great compassion and attunement with the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas. Thus, having sufficient causal conditions to participate in the Acalanatha Fire Puja presided over by His Eminence Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche at the Glorious Jewel Buddhist Center in Kyoto is an extremely rare and precious opportunity.

Since the consecration of the Glorious Jewel Buddhist Center in Kyoto, Japan on May 29th, 2008, when His Holiness the Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang led him to hold the ritual for the first time, Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche has performed the Fire-Offering Ritual there every year, passing on the Dharma lineage of the Drikung Kagyu Order, continuing the teachings of His Holiness the Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang, and making respectful offerings to the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas while giving alms to all of the sentient beings in the void.

This year His Eminence Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche will again preside over the rare and auspicious Acalanatha Fire Puja, bestowing upon all sentient beings a Dharma rain of compassion and wisdom, thus allowing them to accumulate countless merits and benefits.
