On August 16th of 2011, His Eminence Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche will preside over an auspicious puja, to perform the Bodhisattva Ksitigarbha Ritual for Ending Calamities and the Chod, at the Glorious Jewel Buddhist Center in Kyoto, Japan.
Ever since the Glorious Jewel Buddhist Center in Kyoto, Japan was inaugurated in May of 2008, Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche has been holding extraordinary pujas for liberating sentient beings on the day of the Daimonji Festival every year, while people in Kyoto memorialize their ancestors on the occasion. The pujas held in the Glorious Jewel Buddhist Center in Kyoto in the past years helped innumerable deceased to attain rebirth in the virtuous realms as well as relief from suffering.
The puja to commemorate this year’s Daimonji Festival will include the Chod, one of the Eight Major Sadhanas in Tibetan Tantric Buddhism. Additionally, Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche will also perform the Bodhisattva Ksitigarbha Ritual for Ending Calamities. Since Bodhisattva Ksitigarbha is highly revered in Japan, statues of Bodhisattva Ksitigarbha can be seen in places throughout the country, such as cemeteries, temples, street corners, intersections, roadsides, and so on. As Bodhisattva Ksitigarbha is worshiped almost like an Earth Deity, it is apparent that Bodhisattva Ksitigarbha has a profound karmic connection with Japan.
This March, Japan was struck by devastating earthquakes and tsunamis and suffered a severe loss. Fortunately, His Eminence Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche has been continuously benefiting the sentient beings with Buddhism in the Kyoto area. Under the protection of Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche’s unsurpassable merits and blessings, Kyoto was thereby able to avoid such a major disaster. For this reason, it is especially meaningful for Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche to perform the Bodhisattva Ksitigarbha Ritual for Ending Calamities. As long as the participants attend the puja in the utmost faith and reverence, follow Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche’s teachings to refrain from committing evil deeds, but instead carry out virtuous acts, and learn Buddhism, then they will definitely live safely in this era of frequent disasters.
