On Jan 31, 2009, the His Eminence Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche conducted the “Black Water Jambhala Dharma” in the morning and the “Elephant Jambhala Dharma” in the afternoon at the Glorious Jewel Buddhist Center, Kyoto, Japan. There were a total of 85 persons that had attended the puja including the local believers from Japan, believers from Australia and disciples from Taiwan. Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche enlightened that there are Four Families for Esoteric Buddhism: Buddha Family, Padma Family, Vajra Family and Dharma Protector Family. Had the practitioner not practiced the Buddha Family and Vajra Family, and then the practitioner could not have the power of Dharma Protector Family. A Protector is a Bodhisattva who protects the Buddha. There are sixteen grounds for different Bodhisattvas. Jambhala is a eighth ground Bodhisattva. A Bodhisattva whose ground is greater than the eighth ground is called a Great Bodhisattva, such as Avalokiteshvara. People’s virtues can be viewed from two aspects: Wealth and Longevity. In order to have long live, one must practice not to create any killing karma, including not eating any meat. Many Japanese have trouble not to eat any meat. They think meat is to serve as people’s food. The reason why an area or a country will have war is all because of eating meat. Especially eating meat of living ones will result in more wars. In order to have longevity, one must not eat any meat. It has already been proved by the medical studies that eating meat will result in many diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, cancer and strokes, etc…Talking about wealth, as long as one lives in this world, one must have wealth everyday. It was written in the Buddha’s sutras: The reason why one has wealth in this life is the result of practicing in the past lives. It is the result of doing charity and offering! We must take a portion of the money we earn to do charity and offering. For example to give money to and help those who have no money to see a doctor, have no money to study and those who are too poor to eat. We must also make offering to parents and teachers who had ever educated us. From Buddha Dharma’s point of view, those teachers are our guru, Buddhas and Bodhisattvas.

There are differences between function of the “Black Water Jambhala” and that of “Elephant Jambhala”. For many people, they save their money in the bank and yet the money will be borrowed inexplicably or they have done wrong investment. These situations are called Snatch of Wealth. Sometimes the money is lost inexplicably or the jewelry is disappeared. The reason why these have happen is all because of the evildoings they had done in the past lives and this life. For example the conducts resulting from greedy thought like business man’s dishonest conduct, poisonous milk or poisonous rice incidents and house builder that does shoddy work and use inferior material, etc…These greedy thoughts are like the ghost’s so therefore these thoughts are the same as ghost’s thinking. Ghost will suck in the “chi” of wealth and block the wealth that one should have owned. In addition, for those who engage in killing business such as restaurant owners, fisherman, they can’t keep their wealth and the wealth they deserved will not come, either. The concept of Buddha dharma is not a superstition but the simple law of causes and conditions. What you did will result in what you get! As it was written in the Buddhist sutras: Poverty too is one of the sorrows of human being. By conducting the “Black Water Jambhala Dharma” today, Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche can help solve the problems like these. However all of you must not do any evil things such as killing and stealing in the future.

The tantric texts of the “Black Water Jambhala Dharma” which was conducted today was the Terma Dharma passed down by Guru Rinpoche—-Padmasambhava, the founder of Tibetan Esoteric Buddhism. By the causes and conditions, the reason why every one of you is able to hear this dharma and attend this puja in this life is because that you had attended this puja in your past life. However you had forgotten all about it after reincarnation. Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche had conducted this puja today to bring out your conditions again.

Conducting Black Water Jambhala Dharma can help you eliminate your obstacles so as to earn wealth you deserved. Then you will be able to do virtuous deeds to benefit others, the country, and the society. Buddha Sakyamuni has enlightened us that we ought to divide our income into five parts, one for those who in need and one for offerings. Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche has helped many people by conducting this dharma. It is Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche’s wish to benefit others, the country and the society through this dharma. The year 2009 will still be a year that is not too good. If you attend this puja with a reverent heart, Dharma protectors will protect you to get through of it calmly; but you can not do evil deeds. The attitudes of conducting the dharma are extremely critical. The motivation of what Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche does is to help others. It then corresponds with those of Bodhisattvas’ because the purposes of Bodhisattvas’ coming to this mundane world are to help sentient beings as well. Although it would take only one hour to conduct this dharma, but the preparation for it takes a fairly long time. To conduct this dharma perfectly, Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche has practiced it one thousand times. While in retreats, Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche kept practicing this dharma till the signs emerged and were identical what is depicted in the Dharma texts, so be able to help sentient beings. Prior to all of these practices, Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche had practiced Avalokiteshvara Dharma, recited Mani Mantras one million times, and retreated for three months. Moreover, before practicing Avalokiteshvara Dharma, it was required to practice Basic Dharma for three years; before practicing Basic Dharma, it was required to practicing Buddhist Sutra for twelve years.

Today, Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche comes to Japan with unselfish dedications to people here. It costs very much money to come here each time, then why still come? One of the reasons is, Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche ever sowed the conditions with Japan in one of his past lives. Second, Japan needs Orthodox Buddha-Dharma. Especially during this troubling era, many Japanese committed suicides or homicides. These are all from disturbed hearts and discontented minds. In such a chaotic period of time, Buddha’s teachings are especially needed for helping all beings. It is said in Buddha’s Sutra that each accomplished practitioner, siddha, has different conditions with each different place. Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche does not know Japanese and, therefore, it is truly not easy for Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche to be here today. It is Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche’s hope that our Japanese friends could cherish this condition.

Two o’clock in the afternoon, Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche conducted Elephant Jambhala Dharma which would help those who develop the mind of doing charity make much money. If everyone in the world all did virtuous deeds, there would be no war and no killing. Ksitigarbha in Buddhist Sutra have said that every thought coming out from each human being on earth is karma, and is sin. Simply speaking, everyone’s thoughts are for their own benefits and feelings. If everyone does virtuous deeds, then the world will be all virtuous. Starting from small places, oneself, family, friends, the workplace, any of the participating groups, the society, the whole nation, mankind, all animals, and even the entire universe, as long as everyone does virtuous deeds his or her own bad things will go far away. So safe and sound does not come from one’s praying. Praying for safe and sound in a temple is only a custom; there will be no help doing so. Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche, without considering Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche’s own benefits, comes to Kyoto to help this small group of people. Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche hopes that everyone can influence other people, starting from oneself, and then Kyoto, the society, and the whole nation, to make Japan a country to live well. This sounds not easy; but as long as everyone possesses this mind to do it, it will be realized one day. Kyoto came into contact with China starting from Sui Dynasty and later each of the Buddhist sects in China all made contact with Japan. Some eminent Japanese monks had once visited Tibet to learn tantras as well. But they did not transmit the tantras back to Japan. Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche hopes the Drikung’s teachings could really be transmitted in Japan in Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche’s lifetime. Conducting two Jambhala Dharma consecutively, Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche hopes that the Japanese believers could feel the mercy and compassion of Buddha Dharma. Further hope that everyone can have more fortune and more power of doing virtuous deeds in one’s work and career.

White Mahakala is Tibet’s Dharma protector and listens to Avalokiteshvara’s assignment. The dharma ritual would not work if the person conducting the ritual does not have the same mercy and compassion as Avalokiteshvara. Yunga Rinpoche, a Drikung’s Mahasiddha, to Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche, transmitted this dharma personally. Yunga Rinpoche knew that it is not easy for people to earn money in the modern world, so he especially transmitted this dharma, which can be used in today’s business society. Elephant Jambhala was a country’s prince a long time ago. He had a lot of money, and as long as someone seeking his help, he gave him money but never asked what one would do. So he did good deed carelessly; his money was used by bad people, was used to buy weapons by bandit. As a result, his charity did harm to a lot of beings. The prince was killed and beheaded by the heaven deity who felt what the prince did would harm a lot of people. The prince, however, had a heart of doing good deeds. Therefore White Mahakala took him as a Dharma protector. Since his head had disappeared when he had been killed, White Mahakala put him on an elephant’s head. In ancient times the elephant was a symbol of the greatest strength, so Elephant Jambhala has a great amount of fortune.

Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche particularly explained that making madala offering is to make offering to Guru who conducts the rituals and also represents Buddhas and Bodhisattvas to accept the offerings. No virtues will be accumulated if no offering is made. The Mountain Meru represents the whole Galaxy, and there is a mountain called Mountain Meru in the center of the Galaxy. The mountain and water landscape in the venue’s backyard is the landscape of Mountain Meru. There are four earth-like planets that surround the Mountain Meru. Among them, the earth is named Jambudvipa (Southern Continent), and there are also beings living in the Furvavideha (Eastern Continent), Aparagodaniya (Western Continent), and Uttarakuru (Northern Continent). The world that Sakyamuni Buddha ever told definitely exists, and modern equipments have not discovered it yet in nowadays. Make offerings to the Mountain Meru is to offer the best in the world with the banners in 5 colors that represent all of elements. Usually the statue of Amitayus Buddha is used for the Buddha in the three treasures of Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha to pray the Guru live long and abide in the world. The offering to Buddha represents awakening and the making offering during attending pujas would originate the awakening. Sutra represents wisdom that every of beings possesses naturally and could be enlightened by attending pujas. Stupa is used to deposit ringsel, and the old stupa seen in Kyoto definitely contains ringsel inside. It represents attending puja to have opportunity in learning Dharma in the future. There will be one day to liberate the suffering and sorrow of cycle of birth and death by learning Dharma. Therefore the effect of attending pujas is to liberate from the cycle of reincarnation for a given life, which is the reason why Sakyamuni Buddha teaches Dharma.
