Event Calendar of The His Eminence Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche

His Eminence Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche presided over an auspicious regular puja, continuing to teach the important concepts from the enlightenments of Master Guru Gampopa.

Before the puja commenced; Firstly, one female disciple shared her experiences of how Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche gave her father compassionate blessings and transferred her father’s consciousness with the Chod puja, and she made heartfelt words of repentance.

February 23rd 2008, she accompanied one ordained believer to besought audience with His Eminence Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche on Yi-Xian Road, then she began to attend the Chod puja, she had being a believer for one year and eleven month. Then she took refuge On January, 30th 2010, she had never missed any puja held by Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche in Taiwan excepted when she went aboard. She signed up for the over one hundred thousand puja on August 31th 2008 for her father, but her father was hospitalized on August 28th due to pneumonia, he did not have the conditions to attend the auspicious grand puja. When Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche was reciting the prayers and the Amitabha’s heart mantras, she involuntarily broke down in continued tears, her mind still concerned about her father, she thought about the way her father looked when he suffered in the hospital, her heart was hard to bear, then on September 17th, she besought Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche, Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche asked her to perform 50 full prostrations at the time, and reprimanded her for being arrogant and foolish. The ordained disciple on the side of Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche took her to the side and told her kindly, Buddha Dharma need to be besought of, and taught her to besought the compassionately Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche to help her father, to lessen her father’s sufferings. Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche asked her to have vegetarian diet and attend the Sunday’s puja. She cried all the way home from Yi-Xian Road, and kept on thinking about the words Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche had told her, her daughter seen her being unusual and asked what happened, then broke in laughter and said “Finally, there is someone can deal with mom”.

During August 31 to November 22, her father’s condition was unstable; she persuaded her father came to Taipei and met Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche. Compassionate Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche once met her father without saying any word to bestow his blessing to her father, as well as giving one nectar pill and instructed her father to swallow it. Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche did not take her offerings, but taught her to donate the money to those medical organizations for taking care those elder patients who are apoplexy or dialysis the same as her father, and instructed her father to attend the Chod puja. January 22, 2009, it was the first time that her father attended the Chod puja. The next time of Chod puja was changed to February 22, but her father could not able to attend the puja because of her father was hospitalized again on February 21. On March 18, 2009, she beseeched to meet Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche and wished that her father could be able to attend the Chod puja again. Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche compassionately told her that it would be ok as long as she would attend the Chod puja. She had a little bit disappointed that she did not know how to explain to her father. Her mother comforted her that a great practitioner is very busy and has lots of things need to do, she could not beseech Rinpoche continually, her father should make repentance by himself, and then he could be able to leave if there was no debt at all. Afterward her father was stable for more than one year.

On October 03, her parents and brothers came to Taipei to attend the “Drikung Kagyu Lineage of Tibetan Buddhism’s Great Indiscriminate Amitabha Puja for Transferring Consciousnesses” at the Taipei World Trade Center Nangang Exhibition Hall., originally her father was arranged at Green Area in the venue, however the reserved places for disabled people were full on the parking lot, they had to change to Red Area afterward. At the end of the puja, Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche descended the Dharma seat and circle around the arena to personally sprinkle nectar over the participants, Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche passed  there and bestowed the blessing for three times. She cried her eyes out when Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche left the venue. She was grateful that Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche had done everything for sentient beings. She also would like to make repentance that she lost her temper to argue with a dharma brother for the parking space issue; she apologized that she could not take account of the dharma brothers who were the hard-working volunteers for that great puja.

On January 30th, 2011, after taking refuge for more than a year, Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche orally transmitted the dharma of the Four-armed Avalokiteshvara to disciples, including her. When receiving the dharma text, she truly realized the preciousness of Buddha Dharma. Her feel of happiness almost brought her tears out. In the early morning of May 8th, 2011, her younger brother called to inform her that a process of intubation was carried out for her father in a large hospital of Gao-xiong due to an emergency. This was the second time her father suffered from a stroke. The stroke resulted in a large blood clot in his brain, his heart rate has reduced to 30 to 40 times per minute and the Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) was only at 3. Her mother instructed her to contact her older sister who was touring in Canada and asked her to return home as soon as possible. She was too anxious to fall back into sleep. So she got up and began to make full prostrations and repentance. She had held the news till 4:30AM and then informed her two younger sisters, telling them to go back to Gao-xiong first. She also told her younger brother that she would go back after she attended the regular puja that day. At 8 AM, she called a dharma brother and explained her father’s conditions. She also told the dharma brother she planned to implore Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche to perform the Phowa Dharma for her father when Rinpoche ascended to the throne. Around noon, a dharma brother close to Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche informed her that Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche wanted her to quickly return Gao-xiong. Upon hearing the instruction of Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche, she couldn’t help but bursting into crying. That dharma brother comforted and told her that she should remember Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche’s teachings and rush back. Her husband quickly drove her to a Dharma brother’s home to pick up nectar pills. After that, they immediately rushed back to Gao-xiong. Upon arriving in the hospital, she immediately put a nectar pill under her father’s tongue and told her father, “Father, Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche has blessed you twice before. You can remember him. He will help you. Please do not be afraid. We will be by your side.” After she finished these words, her father’s eyes suffused with tears. Sometime past six o’clock in the evening, both of her father’s Blood Oxygen Level and heart rate increased and returned to normal. At this time, her mind was able to calm down slightly. She then quickly rushed back to Taipei to handle her company’s affairs.

After she settled down her household and job businesses, the next day, May 10th, she went to hospital and told her family members that from now on she would like them to be in charge of attending to her father and don’t mind what she was going to do. Then she started to do full prostrations toward guru’s dharma photo, making repentance, praying guru to help her father, and holding the gratitude for his father’s love and care to her. After 300 times of prostrations, her aunt advised her to take a break. At that time, she heard the doctor telling her younger brother that their father’s pupils dilated and needed sending to the High Pressure Oxygen Store. She reminded her younger brother that father did not like staying at hospital so that she suggested they should take father home! Her biggest younger brother unpleasantly questioned: “Shouldn’t we wait for our elder sister?” She said: “If it were you who is on the deathbed being inserted with tube in your mouth, would you feel okay with that? I would take the responsibility if our elder sister has any question after she is back.” Thereafter they sent father home. Due to her carelessness, they did not notice that a nurse took out the breathing tube from their father without their agreement. When her younger brother found it, it was already too late. She, on the spot, saw the nurse taking out the Nasogastric tube from father and father’s face appearance, looking very painful, turned black. She immediately put the nectar pill into father’s mouth. She told father: “Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche will help you. Don’t be scared. Just recite the Buddha’s names with us.” She then took Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche’s dharma photo out and put it upon father’s head. She asked all the present people to recite the Buddha’s names. All the relatives knelt down and sincerely recited Amitabha’s names. At that day, there were over 20 people doing the supportive recitation for her father. Her father looked peaceful, with his lips closed. When their friends and relatives were leaving, they also said their father looked as if he were asleep.

The undertaker would like to help to clean father’s body at 10:00. At that time she insisted do recitation for another two hours. Her sister-in-law said: “The time after midnight would be the bad time to encoffin father. And we need to wait until the next time to encoffin father.” However, the female follower still insisted do recitation. But she did not know, also being careless, to touch and feel the temperature of father’s crown. When they cleaned father’s body, the found the left of father’s body was stiff. Her mother was grieved and the female follower felt remorse. After they helped to change father’s clothes, she asked her brothers and sisters to recite Buddha’s names in turn. She whispered to her father: “It was my fault to let you suffer so much. I beg your pardon. I will do what I should do. Please father put down everything, ease your mind, and follow Amitabha Buddha to the Pure Land to continue Buddhist cultivation. I will go there in the future, too.”

At around 8 am on May 11th, her elder sister crawled through the doorway to see their father so as to make him happy. Strange enough, their father’s complexion turned better and the corners of his mouth rose. Her elder sister felt comforted, for she eventually got to see Father for the last time. Her elder sister continued to recite the Buddha’s name for her. Having tried to suppress her grief, she finally could not hold it anymore and went upstairs to weep. Her younger sister tried to sooth her and said, “My sister, didn’t you say that Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche would help our father? We should have faith in Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche!” Her younger sister’s words were a reminder for her and she suddenly felt ashamed of herself. She found herself lack of faith in the guru and was even worse than her younger sister, who had never learned the Buddhist teachings. When they had their father’s body place into the coffin at midnight, his body was very flexible and had a rosy complexion. They thereby felt relaxed. After the Amitabha Sutra was recited, the Dharma master said, “You have someone learning Tantric Buddhism. It’s very nice.” She immediately thanked her guru for blessing. After her father drew his last breath, they continued to recite the Buddha’s name for as long as 35 consecutive hours.

On May 14th, with approval of her husband, she took the antique amber necklace her husband gave her after keeping it for years as well as a small envelope of money she got when her father was placed into the coffin. With her younger brother and her mother, she went to seek an audience with Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche. Her younger brother personally made an offering to Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche in reverence with their father’s favorite watch, praying that Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche could release their father’s soul from purgatory. Fortunately, Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche agreed and accepted the offering. Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche bestowed blessing upon their father twice and told them that their father went well. On his initiative, Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche told her younger brother to enter his name for the Chod puja. Additionally, Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche told her younger brother that his business would hit bumpy roads in the following 4 months. He should put up with it, for it would be better after 4 months. Her younger brother worried that their mother would think too much as she would miss her husband, who used to be the focus of her life. He implored Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche to give advice for their mother. Again, the venerable Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche bestowed blessing upon their mother without being requested. When the guru accepted their offering, she felt deeply ashamed and immensely grateful. When she walked her brother to the station, her younger brother said to her, “Sister, your guru is very capable and very compassionate. He respects the deceased a lot. It’s truly admirable.”

On May 15th, Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche scolded her again on the Dharma throne. At the moment, she had all sorts of feelings and could not really say anything; she could only simply thank Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche. After the regular puja, she immediately rushed back to Kaohsiung, just in time to attend the rite for the first seven days after her father’s death. She also gave the Buddhist master a book of Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche’s enlightenments on “Happiness and Suffering”; the Buddhist master was very happy. After the rite, her second younger brother gathered the family, reported to them exactly the course of event when they had sought an audience with Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche, and told her oldest younger brother Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche’s advice and instruction. Her oldest younger brother did not believe them and said that he wanted to ask her father by throwing divination blocks. As a result, he attained an answer of “yes” from the divination block throwing at once. Hence, her oldest younger brother kowtowed and apologized in front of the father’s catafalque, bursting into tears. Her second younger brother said that Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche’s words to him had chilled his whole body from head to toe. He thought, “How can a person be so powerful?” It had been as if, when he had talked to his father, Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche had been there, knowing everything that had happened. Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche is not an ordinary person. Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche’s commiseration towards the deceased person, his mercy and compassion, and his vowing power are the same as Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva. Her second younger brother also advised her to understand the guru’s heart and not to pray for anything; their father had been very good; although the process had had some small flaws, it had been better than what he had originally thought; as long as her oldest younger brother could correct his faults, their father would be able to rest assured.

On May, 25th, at the funeral ceremony the aunt addressed and especially thanked that His Eminence Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche bestowed blessings to her father. After the cremation, there were 2 small round hole discovered at her father’s skull. After a dharma brother explained to them, she was finally reassured. Their family are so fortunate that can have such auspicious care from Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche. She thanked so much in heart. She was present at every moment while her father passed away and felt so much. She deeply felt the suffering of not-getting and separating from what one loves. She warned herself more seriously about death and impermanence. She was not filial, had wrong attitude for learning Buddha, had too much attachment, never considered other’s view and feeling, had no sufficient confidence to the guru and had no reverence. Because her virtues were so small that let her father suffered longer. She also praised the book “Happiness and Suffering”, which she ordered 100 copies. The books were placed at the reception desk of the funeral ceremony and denoted as free. These books were not actively given but only one copies left at last.

Yesterday (June, 11th) she brought her first younger brother and mother to thank Most Venerable Guru and successfully helped her mother to ask for participating the Chod puja. Without the blessings of the guru, her father’s funeral would not be so smoothly and perfect. In addition to thanking so many dharma brothers’ help and encouragement, she furtherly thanked Vajra Guru Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche for the auspicious dharma teaching and immense compassion to benefit beings at every moment. In the future she will learn Buddha hard in order to recompense the grace from the Buddhas, the guru, parents and beings.

Followed by one male disciple who shared the story of how His Eminence Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche helped her mother.

His mother got the Alzheimer’s Disease at 2003, At the end of 2005 she became in a vegetative state, completely unconscious and had no behavior abilities due to a stroke of the brainstem, during this period his father and a foreign helper painstaking taking care of her, until this year the foreign helper left, then they transfer his mother to the nursing homes.

May 12th, this year (2011), he got a call from his sister while at work, his mother had fall into shock due to unexplainable reasons, the nursing home had send his mother to the hospital in an emergency, but she had no heartbeat and respiration when she arrived in hospital, it was generally called deceased when arrived in hospital. Suddenly heard the news, he was in panic, could only prayed in mind to besought His Eminence Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche and the dharma protector Achi to help his mother. Also he rushed back to Taipei, directly to hospital.

Because the family members had not arrived in the hospital, the doctors could only follow the standard emergency rescue procedures and perform the emergency treatments, miracle happened! Mother had stopped breathing and heartbeats, the brain the all the organs in the body had lack oxygen for more than 30 minutes, but after the emergency rescues, could still be brought back! He knew his mother must had the help from His Eminence Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche and dharma protector Achi.

When visited his mother in the intensive care unit, the doctors said her mother was too low on hemoglobin, they suspected she had the hemorrhagic shock, and because the brain and body organ had hypoxia for more than 30 minutes, the next two weeks was the observation period, but even if she had returned to spontaneous breathing, without to rely on machine for breathing, her physical condition may still be very poor. His sister herself is in nursing, the doctor’s explanation of hemorrhagic shock was not fully agreed by her, that was the real cause leading to the shock, still had not been determined.

During that time, for the ability of a doctor was limited, not to mention that his family members could be able to do anything or do something. Their minds were full of fear and agitation. He was grateful that the blessings of Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche and Dharma Protector of Drikung Kagyu Achi let his mother have the lifetime more. He thought that it was his last chance, because he knew that there is only Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche who can help his mother, he just whispered in her mother ear” Mother, you don’t be afraid, we will beseech Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche to help you!”

On the Saturday, May 14, he thought that he must ask all family members went to meet Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche together and beseeched Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche to help their mother. Furthermore, whole family members must have the most reverent and sincerest mind to beseech Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche. However his father was nether willing to do it, nor were his elder brothers and sisters. He was anxious and trying out to his elder brother “Whether our purpose of learning Buddhism is to liberate from reincarnation and to reborn in the Pure Land? If mother would be passed away, could we ensure that we would be able to help mother to be reborn in the Pure Land only relying on reciting mantras by ourselves? It is definitely true that only the adorable Phowa dharma performed by Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche can really help mother to be reborn in the Pure Land, if we have the karmic connection, why do not we grasp the opportunity?” His elder brother was pondering and replied ”OK” when his elder brother agreed, his father was also willing to meet Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche thus.

He made a phone call to his elder sister “We are going to beseech Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche to help mother, I wish that you can come with us” But his sister replied that she was tired for teaching at school whole day, she would like to stay at home. He talked to her “The fatigue will be nothing for you as long as you can help mother” He persuaded his sister no matter what she must come with them. Afterward his sister was persuaded into going out with them.

Finally, he went to call her older brother and said “we are going to implore Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche to help the mother. I hope all family can go together.” His brother replied “I have other things to take care. I’ll not arrive at Taipei until this evening.” He said “It’s all right. We’ll wait for you.” More than ten family members went together to make an audience with His Eminence Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche. When everyone kneeled in front of His Eminence Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche, he reported to Rinpoche about his mother’s conditions. Compassionately, Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche told him that some mucus had blocked her respiratory cannel, which resulting in a shock. It is a critical period in next four days. If her heart rates are stable, she will be fine. But if her heart rates fluctuate, it is not good. He thought his mother’s life had approached to the end. During the time like this, only could His Eminence Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche help his mother. If he didn’t implore His Eminence Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche to bestow the Phowa Dharma onto his mother, he couldn’t imagine how much suffering his mother had to endure. Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche mercifully said “I can firstly promise you with words!” Upon hearing the promise of Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche, he was extremely touched and grateful. His feeling was beyond description. His panicked mind eventually was calmed down.

Even thought Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche said “I can first promise you with words!” They knew it was because of their capricious minds. So do the causes, conditions and merits. In spite of this fact, they ought to completely believe in Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche that Rinpoche would arrange the best for his mother.

The next morning, before 6:00 am, they got the call saying that their mother was about to die. All of them hurried to hospital and arrived at around past 6 o’clock. At that point of time, their mother’s blood pressure decreased to merely 80. Standing beside mother’s deathbed, the children were not able to provide any help to mother. However, in their mind, they did not fear nor did they feel worried. Those children one by one whispered to mother that please set her mind at rest, as they would take well care of father as well as them themselves. They furthermore told mother that Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche had already promised to conduct Phowa ritual for her so as to help her to get rebirth in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss of Amitabha. They suggested mother to make great repentance on all the killing karma she had made, and to take her ease to just follow Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche. As his father liked to go fishing before, his mother often helped to kill the fish brought by his father. Moreover, when his mother was young, she also bought many chickens and fishes and killed them personally. Once, his mother raised a rabbit and killed it. After she killed it, she found it in labor, having a bunny in its abdomen. After saying this, he found his mother’s blood pressure decreased to around 60.

At the end, his father whispered to her some comforting words. Not long after that, his mother’s blood pressure and heartbeat stopped. He thought mother already let go everything, as his mother just left the world after they bade farewell to her. He had immense gratitude to Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche for his blessing. Under Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche’s blessing, his mother died in peace. Upon their mother’s death, they immediately placed a phone call to the Glorious Jewel Antique Store and left the message of the information such as when she deceased, what animal sign she was born under, and so forth. When leaving the message, they again beseeched Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche to help their mother by conducting the auspicious and rare Phowa ritual for her.

At this time, they were in the assisted recitation room, reciting the Buddha’s name beside their mother. They remembered what the venerable Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche said to them before: Never weep beside a deceased person and do not tug or touch the dead body. At around 10, his cell phone rang. He left the assisted recitation room to talk on the phone. It was a Dharma brother working at the antique shop. She told him that Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche was about to perform the practice. His big brother saw him walking out of the room to talk on the phone and asked him to buy some mineral water for everyone. After he hung up the phone, he thought there should be some time for him to buy the water. However, 2 or 3 minutes later, before he even entered the elevator, the Dharma brother from the antique shop called and told him that Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche had completed the practice. How amazing! It took merely 2 to 3 minutes for Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche to conduct the auspicious and rare Phowa for his mother!

The Dharma brother from the antique shop told him to touch his mother’s crown chakra. He first touched his mother’s forehead and crown and felt them cool. However, as he reached her crown chakra, it felt really warm. Besides, his mother’s facial expression softened. Although her mouth was not completely closed, the gap was reduced. Those were auspicious signs of the extraordinary and precious Phowa successfully performed by the venerable Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche.

He felt immensely grateful to the venerable Vajra Guru Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche for performing the auspicious and rare Phowa for his mother so as to truly liberate her from suffering and attain happiness. Had it not been the venerable Vajra Guru Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche, who transferred his mother to the Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss through practice, his mother would not have passed away peacefully. He again expressed his appreciation to the venerable Vajra Guru Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche.

On May 16th, he called the Glorious Jewel Antique Company to register his friend for seeking an audience with the Venerable Vajra guru Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche. The Dharma brother in the Antique Company particularly mentioned to him that after the Sunday puja on May 15th the Venerable Vajra guru Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche had asked her about the handling status of his mother’s funeral. When he heard that at the time, he was extremely grateful to the Venerable Vajra guru Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche. When taking care of disciples, Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche is like the light of Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, constantly shining on disciples. He is very grateful to the Venerable Vajra guru Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche.

He also openly repented to the Venerable Vajra guru Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche, all Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, and all believers and Dharma brothers. The Venerable Vajra guru Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche often enlightened disciples that one should correct one’s mind, correct one’s behaviors, truly follow and practice the Dharma teachings, and praise the guru’s merit. He has not really done these things. He did not let his family members see that because of practicing Buddhism he had changed. He did not frequently praise the guru’s merit, so his family members did not give rise to faith to the Venerable Vajra guru Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche.

In particular, on praising the guru’s merit, he finally understood how important it is. The Venerable Vajra guru Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche had enlightened disciples more than once on the Dharma throne that Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche does not need the praises from disciples; it is the disciples who need them. Through praising the guru’s merit continuously, a disciple can let the family members give rise to faith to the Venerable Vajra guru Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche such that this faith can then generate strength and power when they need it the most.

He very thanked the blessings bestowed by His Eminence Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche. On May 31st, the day of the funeral ceremony, everything went smoothly and perfectly. He also thanked the caring and helping from all dharma brothers as well as the dharma brother who attended public memorial ceremony at the day of funeral. When he saw the dharma brothers, who wore the red vests of the Glorious Jewel Buddhist Center, he was really move in heart. Other relatives and friends who attended the public memorial ceremony would also particularly notice while seeing dharma brother’s eye-catching red vests. His elder brother’s upperclassmen in the Buddhism association of the college recently heard about the Phowa Dharma and knew that Phowa dharma is the very auspicious esoteric dharma. It can directly transfer deceased’s consciousness to the Pure Land. To them, who recite Buddha, pray to reborn to the Pure Land and practice the dharma method of Pure Land, it is very unthinkable. So when he saw the dharma brothers who wore red vests of the Glorious Jewel Buddhist Center, he especially came to contact the dharma brothers. It is because the compassionate blessings and dharma-conduction of His Eminence Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche, people with causes and conditions can witness that the power of Buddha dharma is so unthinkable and so great.

After the cremation, his mother’s skull had only a few breakage but the shape was almost like a complete bowl. All relatives clearly saw that there was a round hole on the crown of the skull of his mother. He immediately told the families that it is the auspicious sign of Phowa Dharma performed by Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche. Everyone saw that and said it was marvelous. They had never seen such clean and white bone ash, which was the result of auspicious Phowa Dharma. Even there were some green, pink and orange ashes . Their hearts were filled with delight but not sad at all. Because they knew their mother had departed to the Pure Land. Thank His Eminence Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche for all of those.

In the end, he again thanked His Eminence Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche and prayed that Most Venerable Vajra Guru Rinpoche Dorjee Rinpoche would be healthy, always reside in the world and always turn the wheel of dharma.

His Eminence Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche continued to gave enlightenments on the important concepts of Master Guru Gampopa’s enlightenments on cultivation. Master guru Gampopa enlightened “The practitioner who followed in accordance to dharani and tantra then practices and cultivates truly, must initially begins deeply inside the heart, makes oneself comprehensively and fully raise the idea of impermanence and death.” Many people thought they had taken refuge, chanting mantras, reciting sutras, make prostrations and repentances or even done a few days of retreat means cultivated truly and solidly. It is not the case. Here the “Solidly cultivated” means not only the real practices of cultivations. Cultivation means to amend all the behaviors that would lead oneself fall into reincarnations, and solidly cultivated means use the Buddha Dharma truly into everyday life, then be able to liberate from birth and death, liberate from the suffering of reincarnations. For a person started to practice and cultivate, must make oneself truly fill the heart with the idea of impermanence and death, in fact being able to done that is also cultivating tantric dharma. Some people believe there is no tantric dharma, in fact it exists, just depended on which view point you have for tantric dharma.

A few days ago, Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche saw one news, a person stopped his bicycle in front of a street vendor’s stall, the person thought the street does not belong to the vendor, why I could not park my bicycle there? The vendor thought the bicycle stopped in front of his stall would affect and hurt his business for making money, the two people then began to fight over this matter. Originally, if the person parked the bicycle would ask the vendor if it was convenient for him to park here? If the vendor did not agree, then do not put the bicycle there. Or if the vendor could ask to see how long the person needs to park his bicycle, gave the person some convenience, then it would be fine, the result was two people neither would back down and started to fight. Some people even put this news on the web to ask for public opinions and judgments, to determine who was right and who was wrong? Some supported one side after viewing on the web, such a minor incident was rendered to became so huge. The person who parked the bicycle was very selfish, just thought of himself without considering for others, this type of people could not learn compassion; the vendor only cared about his business, would not even let others park the bicycle for a moment, he does not have the heart for donation, also stingy and greed. From the cause and effect point of view, these two people would met again in future lives, definitely would quarrel again.

Nowadays due to the advocacy of the media and health care system, when everyone talked about cancer, people were horrified, it is a incurable disease, in fact, cancer does not necessarily kill you immediately, but many other diseases were really incurable. Like the heart disease which could follow you since young to old. Sometimes you see him happily singing the birthday song, the next second he could be collapsed to the floor, anytime he could be sent to the hospital or passed away, subjected to a lot of physical and mental torturing, why everyone does not afraid of the heart disease? Furthermore, according to the statistics from aboard and domestic, each year more people died from accidents more than people died from cancer, why wouldn’t you say there were too many accidents, therefore you were afraid of driving or riding in a car?

The biggest problems in the world besides cancer was tax evasion. Most people would want to evade tax, especially business people would try their best to pay less tax, would avoid as much tax as possible, the best would be take back the tax they had already paid. Have you ever thought about this, the establishments of a country was built by the tax paid by everyone, everyone could drive comfortably on the road, was because everyone paid their taxes, if everyone evaded their taxes for their self profits, how would the government had the money for public constructions? Would you have a road to walk? How did these social welfare benefits came from? The retribution from tax evasion were more horrible than cancer! There is another very serious issue, many government’s civil servants thought it was okay to take some extra things, but the state had paid salaries to the civil servants, it is considered corruption if you take extra things besides your salaries. The retribution from corruption was very heavy, it would end up fallen into hell.

The recently very big news about plasticizers was a result from people just demand cheaper things. If nobody greedy for cheaper things, the business man could earn the money they deserve, would there be unethical business man? Now the accusation of plasticizers all pointed towards the suppliers, but if the manufactures did not make these products, how would the suppliers supply it? If there is no demand from the downstream factories, would the upstream suppliers produced these things? To trace to the root, it was the consumers who had the greed for cheap resulted this! Therefore after Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche came to Taiwan, Rinpoche had never shop at the convenience stores, excepts for some imported goods. It is not saying the foreign products were better, just for things you eat into the stomach, you really need to pay more attention.

The practitioner who followed in accordance to dharani and tantra then practices and cultivates truly, must initially begins deeply inside the heart, makes oneself comprehensively and fully raise the idea of impermanence and death. Death and impermanence not only refer to your flesh, some people thought death had to wait until you really died, in fact birth and death is happening constantly. Death and impermanence refers to all the worldly matters were constantly changing, never stopped. If you don’t believe in death and impermanence would occur anytime, you could not learn the Buddha Dharma; We must believe deeply in death and impermanence then you could constantly reminded yourself to watch over your heart. Some people would have negative ideas, to think that we would ultimately die, maybe would be dead tomorrow, should then just wait for the death to come? Or should grasp the moment now to do things they like, do things to satisfy their desires, to fulfill all the desires and indulgence oneself, these were all evil views of common people.

When Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche talked to this moment and saw one disciple did not pay attention on listening to the enlightenments, who were looking at the photo of the auspicious signs after the cremation that the disciple had previously shared, Rinpoche instantly reprimanded this disciple and the disciple who passed this photo to her. They sat in the back of the venue, after they received the photo they stared askance, but Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche had great eye sights and instantly discovered, then instantly enlightened these two disciples not be able to learn the tantric dharma, and asked them to leave the venue right away. Then Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche enlightened when listening to Buddha Dharma during the puja, one must pay fully attentions, otherwise it would have karmic retributions, doze off during the puja also had serious retributions. Some would say, is it so serious as you said? Would it must be so strict? You have to know, anything we do would cause karmic force, therefore Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche would pay attention to even very minor karmas.

Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche continued to gave enlightenments: Impermanence does not mean bad things, death was just that our flesh body could not be used no more, death and impermanence meant the people, things, and matters were constantly changing around us, the good would turn bad, the bad would turn good. When the disciple was changing from bad to well, Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche would help the disciple, give some help, give some push so he could get better sooner. When a disciple is changing from well to bad, Rinpoche would remind the disciple also, but it depended on whether the disciple being reminded would listen and act accordingly, if the disciple did not listen and act, then the disciple would just follow the original karmic force. The most important thing about cultivation is to follow in accordance to the teachings from Sakyamuni Buddha and amend one’s own faults, the most difficult thing about learning Buddhism is amend one self’s behaviors, if not then Sakyamuni Buddha would not propagated Buddha Dharma for 49 years long. There is no principle reasons about the world, everything was all cause and effect. Buddha Dharma was not about reasoning and principles, if you wanted to learn reasoning and principles, just read some book from the Confucius would do, you don’t need to come and learn Buddhism.

Gampopa taught us: Firstly, we should generate the concept of the time of the death is uncertain in our heart of hearts, try to retrieve the intemperate and unruly mind from those impermanent enjoyable matters. By this way, we will avoid doing those evil deeds even if they would be so tiny, and try our best to implement those good deeds even if they would be so small.

The modern people would torture by the medical treatment, for example the surgical operation, intubation etc. In fact, many people might think it is a kind of filial piety that the elder members could live more days long, so they tried all kinds of medical treatment to sustain the body. However, can you imagine whether you can bear with them? You would not endure the suffering for the injection in the hospital, why would you let your family dependents be tortured? The patients could not immediately find out the real cause of the illness in the hospital, the doctors may only rely on the data from the medical instruments, when one instrument is unable to find out the cause, they have to change another one. Every time Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche put his palm over ones palm, he can know the person who has what kind of illness; those medical instruments cannot be superior to Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche’s hand. It is not that you don’t need to see a doctor; it is definitely to see a doctor when you are sick. But some of the illness is because of the cause and effect and karmic power, the doctor could not able to cure it. All you witnessed that the two disciples shared their stories before the puja; they were helpless even if the doctors were ditto. Why did Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche ask the disciples to share their experience? Apparently they are praising the guru’s merits, but you can see that many people suffered in the processing of having illness and medical treatment before they died. Whether it is necessary for everyone to have the suffering? Actually, it is not!

In fact, many people did not deeply recognize with the death and impermanence. Although many people had witnessed their parents or family dependents the processing of having illness and death, but they did not realize the death and impermanence deeply. Because they did not have the illness, they neither endure the suffering of illness nor realize that the death would be happened anytime. They did not implement the real cultivation indeed. The so-called real cultivation is not referring to recite the sutras, the name of Buddha, or attend repentance ceremonies. The real cultivation is that you will not do those evil deeds even if there are the tiny evil deeds, and try more to do virtue deeds. Don’t think that an evil deed can be deducted by a virtue deeds. It would be 10 times of virtue deeds to be deducted when you had done one evil deed.

In the Universe, the power of evil karma is far greater than the virtue karma; those people doing evil deeds are more than doing virtue deeds. Therefore you are involved in the common karma of evil karma. Take an instance which can be understood by modern people, you can imagine that when you bite the piece of fish, how many people needed to catch and deliver it, moreover the fish needed to be killed or cut, as well as cooked for you in the restaurant. How many people would be involved for eating this fish, therefore how big of the common karma it was! The karma retribution is also matured faster than before. In the ancient family, even if they would like to breed the cattle or sheep, they just merely had a few head of cattle or sheep, even if breeding the chicken; they would not be over 10-odd of chicken. Those killing karma would be limited. For the modern livestock industry, they breed and kill thousands of animals together, how big the evil karma it is. When one has the requirement of eating meat, there would be someone to breed and kill the animals. Whether you had involved the great evil karma, you would have to take the karmic retribution of common evil karma. How terrible it is! On the other hand, it is the same situation by doing virtue karma. When you would like to do virtue karma, there must be many people helping you, and you can achieve it. Once there was someone would like to do virtue karma, Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche told him went to the hospital to make charity to those who are poor need money to heal their illness. He held the money waiting a long time without the opportunity to make charity. Therefore we must cease all of evil karma even if the evil karma is so tiny. We must continually do the virtue karma, when the virtue karma is accumulated a huge mass of virtue karma; it may have the possibility to overwhelm or cease the evil karma which we had done the evil karma before, or furthermore it would not affect us at all. For this reason, Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche reminded us, you must immediately cease doing evil deeds, and to do the good deeds. Moreover upon doing those good deeds, you have to continually transfers those merits to the sea of merits accumulated by Buddhas and Bodhisattvas. Then you can be able to associate with the power of Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, only by this way will have the opportunity to change the karma, otherwise you would follow your own karma if you only rely on yourself.

Before the puja, the female disciple sharing her story mentioned that Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche “esteems” her late father, if it was true, it meant that the level of her late father would be higher than Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche? Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche can benefit sentient beings and liberate sentient beings, how could her late father do it or not? Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche frequently liberated so many sentient beings, if there would be so many people of parents passed away; did Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche need to prostrate them one by one? It would be nonsense to use this kind of words. The appropriate wording is that Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche sympathized with the deceased. This term was mentioned in the sutra, Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche was not willing to let sentient beings in the suffering, and therefore Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche gave the help to them. This female disciple’s young brother did not learn Buddhism, so that was why he would misuse the wording. But she had took refuge under Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche, her young brother made the mistake, she did not correct him, one reason was that she was afraid of her brother getting angry, the second reason was that her notion was the same as his brother, she was taking advantage of Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche and violated the precept of not lying. The speech is coming from one’s mind, her notion did not have the sufficient reverent mind, it was why she would do the actions, her purpose of learning Buddhism is merely taking advantage of her Guru, and she was also clinging to her idea, and thinking that her father is the most important without considering of other sentient beings. For this reason, Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche enlightened that she could not learn Tantra. You might not think that a word would cause this effect. You must speak cautiously, because you would not know how others think what you said. Sometime it would harm someone. Why there were two disciples looking to the photos when Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche was teaching the Buddha dharma? Because they had listened to this female disciple’s wording, they had to “esteem” the deceased. That is why they did not respect and pay attention to Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche’s teaching. There are some attendees thinking that they must speak with caution in the future. Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche smiling and said, when Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche talking to His Holiness the Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang, Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche is no need to speak cautiously or dissemble his mind to His Holiness the Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang. It is because that Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche is always reverent to His Holiness the Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang in his heart of hearts. Our parents gave us the body, nevertheless only Guru teaches us the Buddha dharma which let us be liberated from the suffering of reincarnation.

Yesterday, there was a believer who had the cancer of the rectum prayed Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche to let him have the physical strength in order to fight with the cancer cells. Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche enlightened him that Buddha dharma did not teach us to fight with the cancer cells. Afterward this believer corrected himself that he would like to resist the cancer. But there is no this kind of teaching in Buddha dharma, therefore Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche was unable to agree his request. The cancer is more and more general in modern time. There are so many people who have the notions to fight or resist the cancer cells; it was because that the medical system created media hype for the inappropriate concepts.

Most cancer patients can’t eat anything at the final stage and they will become very skinny. These phenomena are karmic retributions. It is because they have eaten too much meat of sentient beings when they were alive. Thus, the retributions prevent you from eating anything. Why do cancer cells enlarge? It’s because they have been eating up your nutrition till you die. This is due to your acts of killing before. A doctor disciple reported to all attendees that generally speaking cancer patients can’t absorb the nutrition from food they eat. So they’d become malnourished and very thin. Most nutrition is absorbed by cancer cells that would become larger and larger and the number would also increase. The doctor disciple shared a medical joke. The meaning of the rate of being cured for cancer patients refers to the fact that no more cancer cells can be detected by medical machines after treatments. However, any cancer cells smaller than 0.5 or 1 centimeter can’t be detected by medical machines. Yet the truth is as long as there is a cancer cell in one’s body, it’s likely that the cancer cell will evolve again. As a result, the likelihood of relapses for cancer patients after they seemingly were cured is high.

Many people came to meet with Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche because of their illness. They often hoped that their surgeries could be conducted smoothly. Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche could often satisfy their wishes that they wouldn’t die at the operation tables. However, the end results after surgeries couldn’t be certain. Does this mean that one shouldn’t undertake any surgery? Some people need surgeries which are manifestations of their karma retributions. Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche once had skin cancer, but Rinpoche didn’t need a surgery to cure the illness. Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche had been well-known for Rinpoche’s love for sea food. No one had been so fastidious about eating see food. For instance, when eating shrimps, Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche only ate the shrimps that their size was exactly like an index finger. Either larger or smaller ones would be excluded. Moreover, Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche was the first to have the dish of living shrimps marinated in Kao-Liang wine. Think about it! How terribly suffered would those living shrimps be when they were place into the wine to be marinated? Due to the vicious karmic causes, Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche had to have the illness of skin cancer in this lifetime. Since Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche had acknowledged his karmic retributions, when Rinpoche was diagnosed with skin cancer, he didn’t implore the Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang to help him. The Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang didn’t even know Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche’s skin cancer. Without imploring Buddhas or Bodhisattvas, no taking any medication, or performing any dharma, Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche completely repented all evil karma he had committed. Meanwhile, Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche also exactly followed the teachings of the Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang and cultivated his Buddhist practices. Step by step, Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche had paid back his karmic debts accumulated from his vicious deeds. Because of the strong faith toward the guru, Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche has not been afraid of death. The guru, Buddhas, and Bodhisattvas will take care of everything. It is also because when Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche began to learn Buddhism, Rinpoche had a well-established grasp of “death and impermanence.” Thus, Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche has been practiced the dharma of “death and impermanence.” It is natural that the results were altered. In the end, the skin cancer was cured without taking any medication. Curing the illness solely depended on practicing Buddha Dharma.

Why would some patients die when on the surgery tables? In operation rooms, there are a lot of ghosts. When some patients lost a great amount of blood while being operated or when metrorrhagia occurred to a woman giving birth, these would happen because many specific ghosts are waiting there for sucking blood. In sutras, it has been described that Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva will send kind gods to protect pregnant women till they are done with giving birth. However, sentient beings are not grateful for the kindness of Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva has bestowed onto them. As soon as they gave birth to their children, they’d begin to conduct vicious deeds. Within one month after giving birth, for the excuse of nourishing women’s bodies, they’d eat sentient beings by killing them. For those women who had giving birth, who can claim they have not eaten chicken soup with sesame oil only for providing them with more nutrition? Afterwards, they’d invite guests to celebrate their infants’ one-month-old birthday. How much killing they would commit for having a banquet to celebrate their children’s birth? Think about it! How much killing karma you have committed and how much alcohol you have had in your whole life only for wedding ceremonies and banquets of celebrating your children’s birth? For a genuine practitioner who has cultivated the dharma of death and impermanence, not a slight evil deed would be committed and it has to be avoided. Don’t be mistaken that it would be all right to do so. The acts of eating meats and having alcohol will give rise to negative influences on you and your children.

Some people may claim that the effects won’t be so serious. They’d say “my children are all right, aren’t they?” Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche taught that it is because you can only see what happen in the present and you can only understand the surface facts. But you don’t know when the effects will come true to your children. Some babies may be born smoothly but with some diseases. For instance, you can observe that many children of one or two years of age were diagnosed with serious diseases. In many hospitals, children’s ward has always been no vacancy. One doctor disciple reported that in their hospital, there indeed are many just born sick infants or child patients younger than 10 years of age. They don’t have enough rooms for those sick children. Such situation also applies to the emergency room in which there are many teenagers or even younger children. As a result, doctors of the emergency room often urge those child patients to return home so there can have more beds for other patients.

There is no such differentiation of rich, poor, noble or unworthy when Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche helps sentient beings. Moreover, Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche has a dislike to befriend with rich people unless they have kind connection with Buddha Dharma. For instance, long time ago, the fifty something wife of a large construction company’s owner was pregnant with a twin. She had high blood pressure and it was impossible for her to deliver the babies without complications. Through various rounds of introductions, she made an audience with Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche and implored to help her. Originally, Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche didn’t agree until Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche saw one of her friends who seemed to be a Buddhist. So Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche agreed to help her under certain conditions. One of them was that the mother had to eat vegetarian dishes while in the first month after delivering the babies. When the babies were one month old, they should hold any banquet to celebrate. Later, she had fulfilled these conditions. Her twin daughters were born smoothly and now they have grown up, studying in the US.

When one truly understands the meaning of death and impermanence, one will not carry out any slightest evil deeds. This is why Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche found out his company’s service has not fulfilled good enough standard, Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche would rather refund customers even if they have already eaten the zongzi ( a kind of traditional food made of sticky rice and rapped in leaves). No company will self require such a high level of customer service. This is because no complaint should be existed. It is not that the zongzi didn’t taste good but rather the service and the process were not arranged well enough. The company can not let customers to feel they have to match with the company’s rules. So the company refunded all customers and no one would complain about it.

Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche then gave the following enlightenment. In this morning, a female disciple passed away. She has been blessed with the auspicious Phowa Dharma, and was reborn in the pure land. This female disciple has not developed solid faith and shouldn’t be granted the Phowa Dharma. Nonetheless, her daughter, also a disciple who has taken refuge, firmly believed in the guru and completely followed the guru’s instructions. So her mother can accumulate sufficient causes, conditions and merits to obtain the Phowa Dharma.

Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche has been helping this late female disciple and her daughter. They were living in the dormitory Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche provides with, which is for ordained practitioners and disciples. After she became ill, she had disturbed her house mates to the extent that their lives had become chaotic without a moment of peace. For instance, she would flip over all the dishes others had prepared for her.

One of the late female follower’s roommates, an ordained person, reported to the present what the female follower had done in the dormitory. When she moved into the dormitory, she could not get used to the light meals that the ordained people used to eat. She spent time on gradually getting accustomed to it. Later on, she acquired diabetes, heart disease, and so on. Once she had pains, she did not care about others. Even though her daughter was exhausted after work, however, once her daughter arrived home, she would ask her daughter to do things for her time after time. No matter how late it was, once she felt painful, she would start to cry, making so much noise that all the others roommates could not sleep well. Later on, although she gradually got better, being able to wash herself and deal with her daily life. However, due to in previous time she could not bear the pains, her mood turned bad and she even dialed 911 to call an ambulance to send her to hospital in the midnight for several times. From then on, her conditions got worse again. The ordained person told her that the call 911 should not be used like that. However, she ignored the advice. One time she even asked the ordained person what repentance is and how to cultivate Buddhism. This ordained person told her that she ought to act in accord with Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche’s teachings and listen to the dharma audio recording of repentance from where she could obtain Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche’s teaching on the method of making repentance. As Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche has ever enlightened, when we are listen to a dharma audio recording, it is not merely us but also many sentient beings who are listening. However, this female follower did not take the advice.

Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche enlightened that: Two weeks ago when the female follower came to the venue to beseech for Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche’s blessing, another female follower who services as a volunteer went to her, trying to care for her and give her advice. However, the female follower turned her head away, unwilling to listen to her. Seeing her on the stretcher being carried in, originally Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche gave rise to the thought of bestowing blessing to her. However, afterwards Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche saw the female follower turned her head away and ignored other person’s advice; Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche decided not to accept her offering but even instructed her to move out where she lived. Many people may think, as the female follower was so suffering, why Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche would like her to move out? In fact, the way Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche employs to help beings is not understandable to you.

The reason why Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche asked the female follower to move out is that the evil karma she had created is so enough for her to fall into the three evil paths. At first her state of illness got improved, and it was just because Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche had kept blessing her. From time to time Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche helps to prolong the lifetime of some people with serious disease. It is not for them to enjoy happiness but for them to have sufficient time to learn and practice Buddhism and to accumulate virtues. However, this female follower, in her lifetime, asked others follower who were making prostrations toward Buddha’s statue to go away so as to let her watch TV in the living room. In so doing she just created great evil karma. Moreover, she spilled the dishes prepared by others for her. At night, she cried aloud in pain. Hearing her crying, others could not sleep well but gave rise to vexations. Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche saw that her evil karma just increased every time she made noise, bothered, or blamed on others. If she would keep accumulating evil karma, Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche would not be able to help her even though Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche hopes to. We have created countless evil karma life after lives. When you meet something, Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche would see you through. As Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche does not hope what you do would be the straw that breaks the camel’s back, Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche would try his best to help you when Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche sees you doing wrong. Similarly, Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche did not hope these things would become her last straw. As she lived in the house, provided by Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche, where are protected by Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, her karmic creditors could not enter. Hence, Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche just asked her to move out and instructed her daughter to let her do whatever she would want.

In fact, among her roommates there were some people with disease, and one was a 97-year-old grandmother. Even the elder at the age of 97 is able to take care of herself, such as going to the bathroom on her own. Why could not the female follower, at the age of 60 odds? As doctor suggested her to do rehabilitation, she was unwilling to do accordingly. She just lay on the bed all day long, as she did not believe in the law of cause and effect, or the principle of that death is impermanent. Besides, she did not have reverent heart and faith in guru. Nor did she have repentant heart. As for the grandmother who is at the age of 97, she everyday did prostrations toward Buddha’s statue and recitation of mantra, in hope of that guru could help her to go to the Pure Land. Contrarily, the late female follower, in her lifetime, merely thought that Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche should release her pains and let her live good days. She did not believe in death and impermanence. While other people recite Buddhas, she kept crying and saying that it was very painful. Once, Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche bestowed the empowerment of the practice of Avalokiteshvara to followers. She said she did not want to receive it. It illustrates that she completely did not believe in Buddha Dharma and Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche’s teachings.

This female follower was just slack and did not want to do anything. Nowadays, people are lazy about everything. They even don’t want to bite the fruit. In last puja, Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche shared his experience, saying that he does not purchase things in convenience stores. As you may improperly think that drinking bottled juice bought in a convenience store could be considered the same as eating fruit. However, if juice could replace fruit, the trees would bear juice rather than fruit. It must has the reason for tree to bear fruits. When we eat fruit, it also helps the natural environment. If people ask for everything being concentrated for their own convenience and are unwilling to bite the food, it could be prophesized that human beings will have no teeth in the future. As you can see, many people are inserted with feeding tube on their deathbed.

Moreover, this follower did not make any repentance before she passed away. In her lifetime, she would cry aloud once she felt any pain, hoping all others people would care about her. It is correct to say that it is one’s virtues to be attended by others. Therefore, one who attends to people also needs to do it wholeheartedly. And the attended one needs to have gratitude, rather than asking the employed one to do things beyond his working range. Last week, a female follower who had experienced operation just made this kind of mistake. And the female follower did not conduct the practice of Achi everyday. Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche had already told the female follower that her body was very cold and she should pay attention to if she would have the gynecologic problems. This time, she did undergo the operation to remove the muscular tumor of this part. Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche continued to enlighten that as one comes to an agreement with other people on their working range, he should keep the agreement rather than put a squeeze on them with his power. Instead of asking others to do everything, the employer should just let the employees do what they should do. As for employees, they should not limit their working range to on what has come to the agreement and do not accept any other assignment. As they are salaried workers, they ought to, if not exceeding their authority, initiatively help others and thank people who give you the opportunity to do more things.

One’s body is a body of his karmic retribution. The body we have now is an accumulation of our previous karma and is born to meet the debts and retributions. In fact, human beings are born to suffer. There is more suffering than happiness. In this degenerate age of Dharma, most people are born to repay their debts. Every physical suffering is a debt owed in the past. If you can tolerate the pain, you will be able to repay the debt. Do tolerate your pain. Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche has physical ailments as well, including severe scoliosis. However, you can’t see it and Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche never mentions the pain. It is because Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche does not regard his physical suffering as suffering. Therefore, you should be grateful when someone scolds you, for he corrects your mistake. You should thank him for helping you repay a debt of yours.

When Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche refused to take the offering made by the female disciple who recently passed away and was toldto move out, she chose to believe the doctor and undergo an operation. Her daughter said that her mother’s surgery was operated on her 9 vertebrates. Even the doctor felt a bit worried. However, her mother made the decision to under the surgery while she was very sober. She also said that she decided to try her very best. After the surgery, the doctor said that it looked positive at first. At the time, Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche asked, “If a doctor tells a patient that his initial treatment result is positive, how high is the success rate?” A disciple who works as a doctor said that it meant that the problem could be treated at a success rate of 50 to 60 percent. If it is cancer, there is no guarantee that it won’t transfer to other parts of the body. Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche kept saying, “Therefore, the patients and their relatives have a lot to imagine, don’t they?” The disciple positively replied, “Yes, they do.” Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche then told the attendees, “You cannot let the doctor tell the truth, but Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche can, for Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche has a lot of disciples who work as a doctor. They dare not to lie to Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche.” The doctors do not speak like this on purpose. The reason they do that is that they merely make the judgment according to some readings in the machines. Usually, you do not dare to question the doctor because you think that they are all certified. Today, Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche has taught you how to understand what the doctors say so as to make the right decision.

Besides, the female disciple said that she would try her very best. It means that she completely rejected the idea of death and impermanence. For example, there are two glasses of water in front of you. One of them is poisoned, but you can’t tell from their appearances. The guru tells you which one is poisoned and advises you not to drink it. However, you won’t listen and want to try your very best. Then, you will have the opportunity to drink the poisoned water. Western medicine only has a history of around 200 years. As the Buddhist teachings have a history of over 3500 years on Earth, why don’t you try your best to practice the Buddhist teachings? Imagine, how can one with diabetes and high blood pressure endure an operation on the spine?

Fortunately, her daughter followed Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche’s instructions and let her mother do whatever she wanted. Therefore, her mother repaid her debts with her body. Originally, her mother could have died in an accident. As she had undergone the surgery, she was freed from the cause that made her go to hell. Otherwise, with the evil karma conducted by her mother, she would have fallen into the Hell Realm, then the Hungry Ghost Realm, and eventually the Animal Realm. She would have stayed there for an unknown period of time. If you were her, you would have thought that Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche had given up on you, asking your mother to move out. Therefore, you would have stayed at the hospital waiting on your mother without going to work. However, her daughter did not take any leaves and went to work every day as usual. A few days ago, her daughter was going to go to the hospital to stay with her mother, but Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche told her that her mother would not die yet and that she should return home to sleep. She obeyed. Why did Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche know when her mother would die? During the two weeks after she moved out, she repaid all her karma with her body. Only when she has cleared all her karma could she go to the Pure Land. Why do people die? From the Buddhist perspective, it means that one has consumed all his merits. When one doesn’t have any merits, he or she then dies. Human beings are born without anything, so they certainly won’t be able to take anything away with them. All you can take is your karmic forces.

Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche employed this means to help her, and her daughter absolutely listened to the guru’s instruction without a second thought. Thereby, her mother was enabled to pay off her evil karma this life with her physical suffering. Because of her daughter’s filial piety, she could then have the cause to implore Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche to perform the Phowa for her mother, enabling her to attain rebirth in the Pure Land. This morning, when Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche performed the Phowa for her, her consciousness arrived immediately, running at her full speed, unlike what she used to be, lying there and reluctant to move, during the pujas. She did not have to suffer a bit before attaining rebirth in the Pure Land. From this anecdote, you can also know that only children with filial piety can implore the Phowa on behalf of their parents so as to accumulate their parents’ merits. Because the children and their parents share the same DNA, they thereby can help their parents attain rebirth in the Pure Land.

Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche often says that you people do not know of suffering. Therefore, you will be helped when you are dead. One suffers a lot during the first 8 hours after his death. The deceased person wakes up every 7 days in the intermediate state. However, they are completely helpless. No one responds to their calling and no one knows when they try to shake trees. Their suffering is immense. Only a few of the many attendees truly want to learn Buddhism. Most of you have not really learned Buddhism. All you do is pray for blessing. One’s heart is incredible and can change at any moment. Therefore, sometimes when the family members of a patient in critical condition implored Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche to perform the Phowa, Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche would give verbal consent first. As the human hearts change all the time, their cause and condition for receiving the auspicious Phowa change as well.

The final moments before one’s death are really important. They will influence the destination in our next life because the last thought prior to one’s death is the concentration of his conduct and thoughts in his current life. Therefore, if we are able to live with the idea of death and impermanence in our daily lives and have firm faith in the law of cause and effect, the last thought you generate before death will enable you to attain rebirth in the Pure Land. No matter how well you think you have practiced, if you fail to practice on death and impermanence, a thought might occur to you out of the blue at your final moment before death: “If I had one more year to live, maybe I could attain the level of Upper Grade and Upper Birth through practice.” If you generate such a thought, you won’t be able to go to the Pure Land because you don’t believe the idea of death and impermanence. If you don’t believe that one will die when his life is consumed up, you don’t believe what the Buddhas say. Having such a thought is being doubtful. If you doubt about what the Buddhas say, you will not go to the Pure Land then.

Why do people die? Because they are to be born. Why are people born? Because they are to die. The so-called nirvana is to be freed from the cycle of birth and death and a state of non-birth and non-death. Although we might not be able to accumulate enough merits and wisdom so as to be freed from the cycle of birth and death, we can pray to attain rebirth in the Pure Land of Buddha Amitabha if we can refrain from committing these subtle evil karma. Many people learn the Buddhist teachings from Buddhist TV programs. They learn which ever practice means that others consider beneficial. What they learn is a bit of everything from here and there. It doesn’t mean that these things are unimportant. Nevertheless, they are merely side dishes rather than main courses. Death and impermanence are the main course. Whenever His Holiness the Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang bestows teachings, His Holiness always mentions death and impermanence. You should keep this firmly in mind. If you don’t think about death and impermanence, you will always be a layman of Buddhism.

According to “Ksitigarbha Sutra”, every thought generated by an ordinary person is karma and is a crime. If you had not done something wrong, you would have gone to the Pure Land already. We are still staying here until now; it means that we still have faults. In the Pure Land, if you want to eat something delicious, the delicious food will magically appear immediately in front of you; the tableware such as bowls and dishes is made of gold and silver; after finishing the food, you do not need to wash dishes and do not need to clean up the leftovers since the dishes and leftovers will disappear immediately. If you want to wear beautiful clothes, you will have them just by thinking. Therefore, you should vow to be reborn in the Pure Land.

There is a listed company’s boss who says he is a devout Buddhist. There are Buddhist statues in each of his company and he prostrates himself in front of the Buddhist statues everyday. However, he still does some things related to illegal transfer of company assets for his own gains. A true Buddhist will not do illegal things; Buddhas and Bodhisattvas will never bless those who break the law either. Because they do illegal things, it is useless for them to worship Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, regardless how often they worship.

There is a male disciple who once saw Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche and a group of people dining in a restaurant while he and his son dined in that restaurant. He worried that he might have to pay Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche’s restaurant bill, so he pretended he had not seen Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche and did not say hello to Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche until after Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche finished the meal and paid the bill. Usually when Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche sat in a restaurant, few people will not notice him. It was not because Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche is very handsome, but because such kind of person is very rare. So, he would naturally attract people’s attention, let alone a disciple’s. To one’s surprise, he did not notice the guru at all. Perhaps he thought he would be embarrassed when greeting with the guru. On the other hand, he could also go to pay the guru’s bill directly and quietly. However, he did not do that because, in his mind, he did not want to pay the guru’s bill, so he just pretended he had not seen the guru. Previously this disciple’s factory had almost closed down, but Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche saved him and his factory. Later, he earned a lot of money. He, however, treated his guru to whom he was greatly indebted like this. Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche does not dare to receive offerings from his family.

Recently, the leg of this disciple’s son was injured. Originally, it had been this son who had dined together with his father in the restaurant. Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche had not cursed him. Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche will never curse anyone, let alone a disciple. Everything is your own cause and effect. Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche does not care if he paid the guru’s bill or not, but focus on the fact that he did not know too much about the proper etiquette. Not to mention you see Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche today, even when you see an elder in a restaurant, you should go to say hello to him or her, don’t you? This disciple and his son’s behavior really followed exactly the teaching of Confucius that one should look straight ahead and eat in silence. Often when disciples just encountered Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche in restaurants, Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche would not let them pay Rinpoche’s bill. A disciple also confirmed that he had encountered Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche dining in restaurants several times, but Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche had not let him pay the guru’s bills. Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche does not care if the disciple paid the guru’s restaurant bill or not. How much money a meal can cost? It is just a few hundred dollars. But it is just that Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche does not like people act before him. The disciple’s acting of “pretending not to see” was very good. He can act in a play or a TV show.

Since the day you took refuge, Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche has warned you to stay away from bad friends. Bad friends are not those who tell you to eat, drink, and play. The most terrible friends of such are those who tell you not to practice Buddhism. Since 1995, Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche began to use Buddhism to help sentient beings. At the time, Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche had a good friend who has already passed away now. When this friend was still alive, he was very famous for fortune telling using Purple Star Astrology (Zi Wei Dou Shu) in Taipei. In 1996, this good friend saw that Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche could change his own fate from bankruptcy and various worldly disappointments. He felt very curious, so he gave Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche’s birth time (Bazi) to another Bazi fortune teller to see Rinpoche’s destiny. Then, on behalf of the Bazi fortune teller, this friend told Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche that, according to the fortune teller’s prediction, Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche is one who has a very deep connection with the Buddha and will have great achievements on practicing Buddhism and cultivation; but if Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche continued to use Buddha Dharma to benefit sentient beings like this, Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche would have bone cancer at the age of 58. When most people heard such words from a good friend, they might feel that the friend was concerning their well-being; so they would listen to the friend’s words. Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche’s mind was also slightly tempted at the time. However, when meditating that night, Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche suddenly realized that he had almost been brought to a wrong direction by this friend’s suggestion.

Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche realized that, now that he had already accepted the concept of death and impermanence and known that death is inevitable for a person, how would he care about when he would die? Furthermore, Mahayana Buddhism and Vajrayana Buddhism all teach us that the purpose of practicing Buddhism is for benefiting sentient beings. In order to help sentient beings, we will not grudge even if we have to sacrifice our lives; how would Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche let his mind of liberating sentient beings turn back for fear of bone cancer? Turning back means that one’s mind of benefiting sentient beings disappear. Although Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche said nothing, he immediately determined he would not listen to his good friend’s words. Fortunately, Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche did not listen. Now, Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche has already been more than sixty years old and can still use Buddha Dharma to benefit sentient beings. Otherwise, if Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche had listened to the friend’s suggestion, things might really be developed towards the direction predicted by the fortune teller, and the fortune-telling would have been very accurate. Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche actually had cancer; but the site of cancer was not accurate. It was skin cancer, not bone cancer.

For example, there was a female disciple who did not listen to the guru’s advice and continued to have a love affair with a boyfriend. This indicated that she indulged her own mind, did not believe in death and impermanence, and was unwilling to withdraw her wild heart. Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche had never prevented you from having boyfriends or girlfriends. Why did Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche particularly tell you that you should not continue to see this boyfriend? You are a vegetarian and practice Buddhism. That boyfriend eats meat and does not practice Buddhism. In the future, either he will follow you to practice Buddhism, or you will follow him not to practice Buddhism. Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche had seen this man and known that he would neither become a vegetarian nor practice Buddhism. Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche compassionately said, “I, as a guru, do not want to see any disciple going to a wrong path and losing the opportunity of practicing Buddhism in this life, and do not want to see any disciple leaving, unless it has no alternative.” You have also heard that there was someone who went to ask some god. The god replied that Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche is more powerful than the god. The powerfulness mentioned here means that Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche can benefit a very large number of sentient beings; the amount is huge.

Many people have heard about the ECMO machine. A surgeon disciple explained that ECMO is also called extracorporeal sustenance system. It is a medical auxiliary instrument for extracorporeal circulation and namely the combination of artificial heart and artificial lung. ECMO can only keep patients’ the sign of life but cannot cure diseases. The success rate is only 30 to 40 percent. Hence the ECMO is not omnipotent. Many acute and severe patients have the ECMO installed but then were declared death. So it is not so effective. Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche requested attendees to clearly listen to what the doctor said and acknowledge what is meaning of “not so effective” as the doctor said? It is not regarded as effective while listening to the word “effective.”

A story is told that many years ago a construction businessman’s wife was ill. His son purchased the expensive ECMO machine abroad without grudging and asked the doctors to let her mother not pass away by any means. The daughter came and asked Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche to help her mother. Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche queried that was it because the heritage was not well divided? The daughter honestly admitted. Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche claimed that her mother’s life length was finished. The daughter then asked Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche to let her mother go smoothly. Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche then performed the dharma. One or two days later, after the daughter visited her mother in the hospital and came home, she unexpectedly saw her mother in her house as soon as entering home. Her mother thanked the daughter and told that she was very comfortable now. The daughter immediately received the call from the hospital to inform her that her mother had passed away.

The body of human beings can be divided into external breath, internal breath and esoteric breath. If your external breath was stopped, your pulse and heartbeat cannot be measured. If both internal breath and esoteric breath are not stopped, one can be revived. If external, internal and esoteric breath are all stopped, this human being is really dead. Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche knows that because of having such experience twice. One is that, once upon a year , four times of Phowa dharma were conducted for four deceaseds within a day. The pulse, as well as heartbeat, were all stopped but the internal breath was not stopped so Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche revived. The other is that, while taking retreat in Mt. Lapchi in 2007, one day Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche practiced and both external breath and internal breath were all stopped. Only the esoteric breath was not stopped. It was Dharma Protector Achi reviving Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche. So Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche can continuously benefit beings up to now. As to the people in persistent vegetative state, if their spirits and consciousness still exist, Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche can know what they think. If their spirits have left but only the consciousness exists, what they think cannot be understood. Phowa dharma is also called consciousness-transferring dharma, which means that it transfers your spirit and consciousness to the Pure Land. When your spirit leaves but your consciousness still exists in your physical body, practitioner’s spirit and consciousness can enter you physical body. Conducting Phowa dharma is to push the deceased’s spirit and consciousness from the head of physical body by practitioner’s immense ability.

Frankly speaking, the mother in that story had passed away. Namely, we called it as “the spirit had left”. But because of using the ECMO machine, it kept the heartbeat seemingly. She also knew that herself had been dead but the machine let her consciousness feel that her heart still beat. So she suffered so much. You think, if cutting off your heart and installing the machine inside to enforce the heart to beat, would you be comfortable? Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche performed the dharma to let her energy be vanished. Nothing worked even if the machine was installed. And she would pass away. Sometimes cardiotonic agents are injected in the emergency treatment. But after a shot, the heart beats some and then stops. More shots are had. But it is futile. A doctor disciple reported that the main purpose of cardiotonic agents is to enhance the function of the heart and brain. But other organs are bypassed comparingly or even given up, in order to let the heart and brain have sufficient Oxygen saturation for keeping the heart beat. But contrastingly the Oxygen saturation of other organs are lowered. So the patient are often amputated because of tissue necrosis. So it is also one kind of poisonous drug.

If you try very hard to realize the Ten Good Dharma Deeds no matter how minor they are, then your good power will merge into the good power of the guru, all Buddhas and Bodhisattvas. It will gradually enhance your good power. If you can suppress the evil power and make your evil karma power hide, decline, or even vanish while having no function upon you. It makes you have no obstacles on the way of learning Buddha and practicing. As a result, you can slowly turn you karma power. Everything would become better and be toward the good direction. Some people learn Buddha but their family negate or even interrupt them by many means. That would be abated and slowly turn better. The Buddha dharma says “to abate karma”, which refers to eliminate the hindrance for learning Buddha. If your family hindered you from learning Buddha dharma, you should clearly understand in heart that learning Buddha is the most important and you must not be affected. Other things will slowly turn. The hearts of people who learn Buddha should be as firm as the concrete and not impacted by outside forces. Nothing can change own heart for learning Buddha.

Soon it will be the end of June and half a year will be passed. In half this year, Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche did so much for you, as well as enlightened so many dharma methods of truly practicing. Remind you again and again. Why were death and impermanence told again in this week? That is to help you firmly lay the foundation of learning Buddha and make you march smoothly on the future way of practicing. One should not insist on learning what one cannot learn. If there are no death and impermanence, which is foundation of learning Buddha, other things would be futilely learned and cannot be successfully learned. You can see that if constructing a building, does it need to lay the foundation well before building up? It takes so much time to construct a concrete building. But while devastating a building, it could collapse in seconds. It is like you learning Buddha. You must monitor own heart well. Even the minor and minor evil things cannot be done. Many people may think that there are so many people having no troubles while doing evil things. They think that themselves are not unlucky. That is not believing in causes and effects since you do not know how many good karma or bad karma were accumulated in the past of everyone. Why warning everyone not to indulge own heart and have any minor evil things in this consecutive 2 weeks? Because this is the most basic and important concept while learning Buddha and practicing.

The second item of Master Gampopa’s four dharma, “Make your Dharma practice become the path”, will be demonstrated next week. It teaches us that how to correctly practice and learn for one could help oneself and other beings to liberate.
