On January 22nd, 2017, His Holiness the Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang, Dharma Lord of the Drikung Kagyu Order of Tibetan Buddhism, paid a visit to the Glorious Jewel Buddhist Center in Taipei. On this wonderful, propitious day, His Eminence Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche led more than 1,500 disciples to joyously welcome His Holiness before reverently listening to his precious New Year teachings. <\/p>\n

Accompanying His Holiness were Bhumang Rinpoche, Khenpo Orgyen from the Drikung Kagyu Institute at Jangchubling Monastery, Khenpo Tenzin Norbu from Ani Monastery, Khenpo Phuntsok Tenzin from Chile, Lama Samten, DruponSonam Nyima, Lama Drubwang, Tibetan Language Secretary Lama Karma, the two AnisSherab and Yeshe from Germany, and Sally, His Holiness\u2019s lay disciple from America. In addition, Mr. Tobgye S. Dorji, Ambassador of Bhutan and the Chairman of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development, his daughter Ms. Chukie Om Dorji, and Mr. J. P. Singh from India also attended this distinguished puja.<\/p>\n

As the Lunar New Year approached, Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche had respectfully invited his root guru His Holiness the Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang to the Glorious Jewel Buddhist Center in Taipei fora mandala offering. This would also give all of the believers and disciples an opportunity to receive His Holiness\u2019s blessings so thattheir hindrances to Buddhist cultivation could be reduced.<\/p>\n

During the puja, Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche led the Glorious Jewel ordained disciples, as well as the general director of the Glorious Jewel Buddhist Cultural Exchange Association, in a respectful mandala offering to His Holiness. Next, Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche instructed the disciples to recite the Simplified Ritual of Four-Armed Avalokiteshvara. All of the attendees then chanted the Great Six-Syllable Mantra along with His Holiness and Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche.To be able to chant mantras with such master practitioners in this lifetime comes from a very rare causal condition. <\/p>\n

His Holiness then said how wonderful it was for everyone to be able to come and chant mantras together. He mentioned that the Great Six-Syllable Mantra is the king of all mantras, and described how each of its syllables has a different meaning. He pointed out that all Dharmas arise from causes and conditions, and that with sufficient causes and conditions, one would naturally succeed in many endeavors. His Holiness then thanked Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche for his contributions to the Order over more than twenty years, as well as his support of Tibetan temples and monasteries, large and small.These had included the Kagyu Order\u2019s main temple, Gampopa Monastery, whose two-to-three-story-high main hall was currently under construction. The main Buddha statue in PhagDru Monastery had also been completed, and Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche had made an offering to His Holiness the Drikung Kyabgon Chungtsangby way of reconstructing Yangrige Monastery. \u201cFor these accomplishments we must thank Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche\u2019s years of unwavering effort and wholehearted support,\u201d His Holiness said. \u201cMultiple locations in need are being attended by him, and he is constantly helping many sentient beings.\u201dHis Holiness announced that furthermore, three or four years previously, he had begun the Sravasti Project, and that Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche had been its main benefactor, too.<\/p>\n

Sravasti is a very auspicious place in which long ago, Shakyamuni Buddha\u2019s Sangha conducted summer retreats for twenty-five years.Several of the Buddha\u2019s disciples went there, including Sariputta and Maudgaly\u0101yana, and sarira stupas were erected in Sravasti for many of Shakyamuni\u2019s disciples as well.The Sravasti Cultural Festival has been held there for two years, and more than three hundred of its tents have been donated by Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche.In addition, he has assisted in other areas where help was needed.His Holiness had planned for construction of the main hall to be complete about a month hence, at which time the Buddha statues could then be moved into it. Then His Holiness said that about sixteen or seventeen years previously, he and Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche had taken their first trip to Kathmandu. There, a disciple of Garchen Rinpoche had reported to His Holiness that there was a set of Indian-style standing statues of the Eight Great Bodhisattvas, which for more than twenty years had not been bought by anyone. Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche had then purchased the statues.His Holiness had originally sent them to a temple in New Zealand, but a few years later, that location no longer possessed sufficient causes and conditions to keep them, so he was now having the statues shipped to Sravasti.The plan was to place a two-story high statue of Shakyamuni Buddha right in the middle of the main hall, with the Eight Great Bodhisattvas surrounding the Buddha.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

His Holiness pointed out that without sufficient causes and conditions, even the most determined efforts would fail. Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche\u2019s efforts, on the other hand, had gradually born fruit through his continued contributions, without any specific intention or mention of them to anyone. This is exactly how causes and conditions work. Lord Jigten Sumg\u00f6n once said that if you deliberately try to do something, such an action is contrived. Anyone can do that. However, if you do not go out of your way to do something, and your efforts come to fruition naturally, then that is an accomplishment. Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche is a prime example of this; it is a very good sign. <\/p>\n

His Holiness said that the construction at Sravasti had only just begun, and that it would eventually become a major holy place of pilgrimage for Buddhists all over the world. He predicted that within twenty-five years, Sravasti will have transformed into a very beautiful, greenified metropolis\u2014the best city in all of India. It was His Holiness\u2019s hope that it could be listed as a United Nations protected area.<\/p>\n

On November 10th of this year, Sravasti\u2019s consecration ceremony will be held, and His Holiness the Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang said he had invited His Holiness Drukchen to be the guest of honor, and that all the lamas and anis from his monasteries would organize this puja. Each year, a different Order would be invited to hold the puja. Because Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche was its main benefactor, His Holiness had also invited the disciples of the Glorious Jewel Buddhist Center to participate in this year\u2019s consecration ceremony. The hotels and restaurants there could accommodate about five hundred guests.<\/p>\n

Next, His Holiness bestowed upon Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche two bags of precious nectar pills. The first bag, from Drikung Thil Monastery, had been provided as an offering by Akong Rinpoche; His Holiness had kept half, and was giving the other half to Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche. The other bag was full of long life pills from the King of Bhutan, who had brought together all of his country\u2019s practitioners and lamas to perform the Amitayus Puja there. It had been made as an offering to His Holiness, who in turn was bestowing it upon Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche. These pills are extremely rare and auspicious.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

The entire time His Holiness was speaking, Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche sat upright and listened with respectful attentiveness. Furthermore, whenever His Holiness praised Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche\u2019s accomplishments, he smiled with genuine sincerity and thanked His Holiness.<\/p>\n

Next, His Holiness held up a calendar and said that it had been created by one of his disciples, and was full of His Holiness\u2019s photos. He instructed for it to be placed in the Glorious Jewel Buddhist Center. After receiving the calendar, Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche praised it with admiration, saying, \u201cHis Holiness is quite photogenic!\u201d A knowing smile passed between guru and disciple, and then His Holiness explained that one of the photos contained a type of flower that blossoms from a tree called a \u2018cannonball tree,\u2019 also known in Chinese as a \u2018sorrow-free tree;\u2019 this had been the sort of tree, he said, under which the Buddha was born and entered Nirvana. The photograph was of His Holiness standing next to it.<\/p>\n

Finally, Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche thanked His Holiness, Bhumang Rinpoche, the khenpos, and all of the monastics for allowing everyone the good fortune to practice the Dharma with them.<\/p>\n

This puja had proceeded just like a warm and happy family gathering. Thanks to Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche\u2019s merits, the Glorious Jewel believers and disciples had been given the causal conditions and good fortune to participate in this Mandala-Offering Puja for His Holiness, and to listen to auspicious teachings. The attendees were very grateful to Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche for his compassion, and for creating so many opportunities for his disciples to form virtuous affinities and accumulate fortune.<\/p>\n

After the puja, His Eminence Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche gave special instructions for each disciple to receive a long life pill bestowed by His Holiness the Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang on his or her way out. The disciples did so reverently, with both hands, deeply moved and grateful.<\/p>\n
