I took refuge in His Eminence Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche on November 23rd, 2003. At the time, I was in the middle of a construction project I\u2019d signed onto twelve years previously, but was constantly running into problems with my work. Each time a presentation was given and I got the go-ahead, I\u2019d begin preparations to apply for the relevant building license; and every time, halfway through the application process, I\u2019d run into some obstacle. Since the beginning of the contract, this situation had repeated a total of four times. It was driving me crazy. <\/p>\n
While this was going on, I heard someone say that for forty or fifty years the proposed construction site had previously served as the location of a prison for political dissidents during the White Terror\u2014and that quite a few people had died inside. Thus, after taking refuge, I implored for help liberating all the consciousness of those deceased political prisoners that were still lingering about the construction site. Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche told me that I lacked good fortune, and that he would have to perform a Dharma in order to help me accumulate some; otherwise, even if I did it, I would encounter mishaps. Therefore, in August of 2004, the guru performed the Dharma for me and my wife (Yang Xuqi, also a disciple). <\/p>\n
After that, bids for the construction project went ahead without a hitch. As many as eight companies came to make a bid, which back then was a very difficult number to achieve. In a business environment in which the price of construction materials was on the rise, all the construction companies were biding their time, waiting to see what would happen. As a result, it was not easy to get anyone to sign a contract for a government project. For mine to have attracted eight potential builders was practically unheard of; moreover, the prices we agreed on were to everyone\u2019s liking. Even if both sides were not necessarily satisfied in all matters, we at least were all able to accept the terms. Just like that, a project that had been stuck in the doldrums for twelve years was given new life by H.E. Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche. I am so grateful to the guru. <\/p>\n

I started kidney dialysis in 1985. In 2006, test results revealed that my parathyroid index had skyrocketed to 3,500. The doctor said anything higher than that was off the scale; normal was considered to be a level of 200 or lower. In the medical world, the general view in such a case was that the parathyroid glands should be removed, so I made preparations for surgery. <\/p>\n
Even thirty-one years after having renal dialysis, Wu Bingnan has surprisingly not suffered any physical side effects, and had a good quality of life. <\/span><\/p><\/div>\n First, they gave me an ultrasound to determine the location of my parathyroid glands, and this led them to discover that all four of them had swollen to the size of my thumb (and normally they should each have been the size of a grain of rice). One of the glands had moved to a spot between my trachea and esophagus. I had originally thought that having my parathyroid glances would be rather easy, about the same as having my appendix taken out. I was shocked to find, upon asking an elder schoolmate of mine who was a doctor, that there would be a good deal of risk involved in the procedure, and that it could sometimes be fatal. In addition, it had some major potential side effects. It was then that I recalled something Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche had taught us: Performing grand prostrations is the quickest way to eliminate one\u2019s karmic hindrances. Right then and there, I decided not to have the operation; instead, I would do as many grand prostrations as I could. I remembered that I hadn\u2019t continued to do them after completing a certain number of grand prostrations, one of the Four Uncommon Preliminary Practices, as instructed by Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche many years previously. This realization made me feel I should repent deeply. <\/p>\n After performing grand prostrations diligently for six months, I went back to the hospital for further examination, and found out my parathyroid index had miraculously fallen to 200. At first I couldn\u2019t believe my eyes, and even the nurses thought it was incredible. After double-checking, the head nurse told me, \u201cNo mistake; the data is correct!\u201d Hearing these words spoken so confidently brought tears of gratitude to my eyes and streaming down my cheeks. Not only had Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche extended my wisdom life for practicing Buddhism, but the guru had also prevented my years-long kidney dialysis process from having any of the various harmful side effects that most patients end up with. As such, I had been spared a great deal of suffering, and now had the peace of mind to practice Buddhism and enjoy a very good quality of life. I would again like to express my gratitude to Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche! <\/p>\n (Postscript) Wu Bingnan passed away peacefully on December 31st, 2015. Soon afterward, he was liberated by way of Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche\u2019s precious Phowa. For years he had suffered from polycystic kidney disease (in which the kidneys are riddled with numerous cysts, preventing the organs from functioning properly), as well as severe osteoporosis. After the cremation, however, not only could a perfectly round hole clearly be seen in his skull, but his bones also had hues of green, red, white, and so on.
