In mid August, 2007, the great Pig Year teachings, held every 12 years, took place at the Phyang Monastery in Leh, the capital of Ladakh. Being one of the 3 greatest events of Drikung Kagyu, the great Pig Year teachings commemorate the birth of Lord Jigten Sumgon in the pig year. His Holiness Chetsang personally presided over the teachings, conforming to the Drikung tradition.<\/p>\n
At invitation of Choeje Togden Rinpoche, the abbot of the Phyang Monastery, His Eminence Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche led nearly 300 disciples to the occasion. During the teachings, Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche always accompanied His Holiness closely and received a lot of privileges. Many believers of Drikung Kagyu flocked around Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche requesting blessings. It was a once-a-lifetime opportunity for the believers to see a rinpoche in person, and they treasured it with utmost reverence.<\/p>\n
In addition, on the afternoon of the first day of the teachings, Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche, along with his disciples, took a 3-hour round trip on the bumpy roads of Leh to pay homage to the holy place of Alchi.
