Event Calendar of The His Eminence Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche

At the beginning of this puja, His Eminence Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche ascended to the throne and asked the believers moving forward to sit because there were crowed in the rear of this center, Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche proceeded to enlighten that the space is not enough for all attendees, His Holiness the Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang ever concerned Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche’s health for several times, and reminded Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche not to be so painstaking, which is no need to talk too much for those believers. Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche sighed that next year, he would change the way to let the people lesser; it is because that there are no so much people who are really learning Buddhism. Most people only have the attitude to long for blessing and safety; this is not a correct attitude for learning Buddhism. Since you are not wholehearted to learn Buddhism, there is useless to come here for so many times. It will be closer to the July of the lunar calendar, which is so-called “Ghost’s Month” for Chinese people. Many people would postpone purchasing the house and avoiding getting married in this month; they thought that they cannot do anything during this period. Actually it is merely a folk customs; there was no mention in the sutra. Furthermore, could it be said that you could be a vegetarian and reciting the name of Buddha during the Ghost Month, you could do killing karma before and after the Ghost Month? It is merely a faith of customs; such custom has been transmitted to Japan.

Actually there is no mention in the Sutra that there would be a door opened for Ghost during July of the lunar calendar. But it mentioned that one of the main disciples of Buddha Sakyamuni, Maudgalyayana, who was the first in the attainment of supernatural power, once saw by his supernatural power that his mother had fallen into the Hungry Ghost Realm after her death. He was very sad that the sentient beings in Hungry Ghost Realm are unable to eat the food and water. Even if they swallow the food, it will turn into flames while going through the throat. Some of Hungry Ghost had accumulated the merits which can only take the excrement as a food in the toilet. In Tibet, there was a Rinpoche ever said that when a person is spitting, there will be lots of Hungry Ghost crowed to fight for eating the spittle. That is why we cannot spit everywhere, Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche said, in humorous tones.

What kind of people would fall into in the realm of Hungry Ghost after death? Those people who seldom practice charities and make offering. The so-called reluctant to give up charities, one is that they did not practice charities or their personalities are stingy, the second is that they haggle over the amount of charities. Many people like to ask how much money for charities, don’t do that, it should be up to you. Those who would like to ask other, they are afraid that they would suffer losses when they had given more. If they are afraid of suffering losses, you simply give it up. When someone asking for the amount of charities, someone would reply “Rejoicing in other merits”. It is not correct meaning for this term. It is referring to that when someone is doing the good deeds which are benefit for sentient beings, and you are generating a joyful mind. Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche taught the attendees, when your first thought to decide for the amount of making offerings. Don’t think too much for that. The third is that they were regretful when they practiced charities. The fourth is that someone dissuades people to practice charities, or tells others not to make offerings too much. Those people who will fall into the Hungry Ghost Realm after they die.

Do not give something as useless or unwanted for practicing charities. There was a person gave the wine coupon as an offering to Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche. Obviously he knew that Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche observes the precepts not to drink wine, how should he give this kind of coupon? There was someone gave the Taiwan uniform invoice as offering in order to let Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche to participate Taiwan receipt lottery. Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche said in humorous tones, because his eyesight is not so well, he never participates in this activity. If someone would donate the invoices, he can donate the money to those who do not have money to see doctor or to eat food when he has won the lottery.

Many people would like to buy the fruit as an offering to Buddha; they would choose the fruit which is the couple’s or their children’s favorite. What are the whys and wherefores to buy the fruit as an offering for Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, or you are merely make offering for your couple or children? You should not choose what you like, you should choose the best fruit which may not be the most expensive but it is under your capability, as well as the most fresh of in-season fruit. It is not appropriate that someone might not eat those fruit until the fruit would be decayed soon. That is why Tibetan people make the torma as an offering to Buddha, because it can be stayed longer. You should not choose your favorite flower as an offering to Buddha, Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, even if your guru there is no favorite thing. It is not that Buddhas and Bodhisattvas have the favorite thing, and you have to provide the thing as an offering. It is that Buddhas and Bodhisattvas accept the offering in order to bestow you the opportunity of accumulating merits. When a person would be died or have a accident, it is because there is no merit left at all.

Maudgalyayana was very sad, he found that his supernatural power could not liberate his mother in the realm of Hungry Ghost; therefore he beseeched Buddha Sakyamuni to help her mother. Buddha Sakyamuni taught him a dharma method to liberate her mother. Buddha Sakyamuni told Maudgalyayana that the Sangha were about to come out of their retreat and instructed Maudgalyayana to make offerings to the Sangha who would come out of their summer retreat as well as to dedicate the merits and virtues to his mother. The summer was very hot, therefore the Sangha would not go out for mendicancy in summertime during July of lunar calendar in India; another reason was that many insects crawling on the ground in summer, they would avoid to hurt sentient beings during the summertime, they would take retreat, which is so-called “Varsa”. Traditionally the Han people attach importance to filial piety, as well as the sutra and the Confucianism promoted the filial piety. For this reason, it is so-called “The month of Filial Piety” for July of Lunar calendar. Besides, Ksitigarbha’s birthday was just in the same month.

We can learn something from this story: Maudgalyayana’s mother fell into the Hungry Ghost Realm after her death. Maudgalyayana would like to help her; she was unable to eat the food by worshiping or burning the incense. Maudgalyayana had to   use his supernatural power to carry some food in order to let his mother eat something. However the sentient beings in Hungry Ghost Realm are only able to see the food, but they unable to eat it. Furthermore, Maudgalyayana, who was the first in the attainment of supernatural power, but he was unable to liberate his mother. He needed that Buddha Sakyamuni taught him by making offerings to the Sangha in order to accumulate the merits. Secondly, Buddha Sakyamuni taught Maudgalyayana the way of helping his mother, it was merely to help her to be reborn in the realm of Heaven, which is not the Pure Land. Maudgalyayana had attained achievement which would be better than us; he could not be able to liberate his mother from reincarnation. Therefore modern people thought that they could look for someone who can liberate the deceased to be reborn in the Pure Land by reciting the sutra; it would not be an easy task.

When people had a serious illness, some of their family members would whisper them and remember them to recite the name of Buddha, if they were unable to speak, furthermore, they would tell them to recite it by their mind. If they would like to recite the name of Buddha, their inner Qi (breath) must be strong enough, but when the patients are struggling to live longer, how could they are able to think about reciting the name of Buddha? Right now, the weather is very hot in India; Especially, Taipei is the hottest city in Asia. You might discovered that there was no such high temperature since you were young, recently the temperature was almost 34, or 35, or 36 degrees centigrade, the reason would be the modern people’s temper get worst. There were two things which caused high temperature in Taiwan; one thing is that people burn the hell money in July of lunar calendar. Another thing is that people hold BBQ parties in the Moon Festival in Taiwan.

It is simply a kind of custom to worship ghosts during the month of July in the Lunar Calendar. How come there is a ghost gate to open in the month! If ghosts can be out of the gate in the month, as soon as the gate opens, how would they be willing to return to endure their sorrow, given their unspeakable suffering in the ghost realm? Moreover, ghosts are very good at hiding. Even ghost officers can’t be certain to catch them. They’d hide to the degree that even practitioners can be aware of their existence, unless the cause and condition have arisen so that practitioners would know it. For these reasons, how come ghosts won’t hide away and will go back? When the karmic force of a deceased isn’t strong enough to be reborn in the Six Realms, he or she will stay in the ghost realm. As a matter of fact, as soon as you leave the center, you’ll encounter many ghosts every where, on the streets or roads. After midday when the sunshine becomes weaker, ghosts are all over the places. Why would you fear of ghosts? It is because you are lack of compassion and afraid of being hurt. To the contrary, a compassionate practitioner will waste no time to help them and won’t feel a bit of fear at all. Additionally, ghosts have some supernatural power, too. They would know if you can help. If you can’t, they won’t even take a look at you. If you have learned Buddhism and carried out kind deeds, they will not try to harm you, either. We should strive to perform kind deeds. If we do so, ghosts will come to help you, but not harm you. On the other hand, if you carry out more evil deeds, ghosts will come to say hellos because you are the same kind.

Some people believe if, in July of the Lunar Calendar, they burn ghost money (joss paper) to “nice brothers” (a different name for ghosts), these nice brothers can protect them and get them rich. This ritual is just lay people’s belief. It isn’t described in sutras. Indeed, burning ghost money is a custom of Han people, starting from Dynasty Shang and Zhou. Back then, Shang and Zhou people worshiped spirits and ghosts. Ghost money, however, has different designs in northern and southern China. Which one can ghosts really use? Is there any differentiation between northern and southern ghosts? Thus, burning ghost money is actually helpless to them. Ghosts think it might be helpful to them to visit places where ghost money is burning, so they’d come. They, however, can’t actually get any money. So they will come each year.

Another relevant ritual is lighting lamps, which is held in many places. One can make a call and it costs 1200 NTD to light a lamp. This ritual is said to have protection of him or her for the entire year. Can it be really so cheap to buy such a protection? It only takes 100 NTD a month, which amount of money can buy us nearly nothing. In the Glorious Jewel Buddhist Center, there is no such ritual for believers to light lamps. Every ritual here is pure and clean. At first, Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche also wondered whether without providing a ritual of lighting lamps would be too unusual. It is very different from other Buddhist centers. Later Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche had read all kinds of sutras in which there isn’t such ritual described. Moreover, Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche had visited several ancient temples established more than one hundred years ago, in which there are no such towers for believers to light lamps. So Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche has been certain that the practice of not lighting lamps in the Center is correct. Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche will not dare to carry out rituals not recorded in sutras.

The dharma will be performed today is Chod. The meaning of Chod in Tibetan refers to “elimination.” But what do we want to eliminate? We want to eliminate the suffering of being reborn in the Three Evil Realms. Why do we reincarnate? It is because of our afflictions. Why do our afflictions arise? It is because of our greediness, anger, and ignorance. How come we’d have greediness, anger, and ignorance? It is because of our nescience which doesn’t refer to our lack of understanding, anger or ill tempers. Many people say when their nescience arises, they’d become angry. This is not the true meaning of nescience. Rather, it means when one doesn’t believe in the law of cause and effect. It means when one is lack of respectful and undefiled mind. He or she doesn’t believe the genuine phenomenon in the universe. Such nescience will give rise to greediness, anger, and ignorance, which in turn will yield to various feelings. Feelings will then result in self-attachment that will cause afflictions. When one’s afflictions arise, suffering will ensue and then entering the cycle of reincarnation becomes inevitable.

Chod is one of the Eight Sadhana practices and, according to the principle of Large Sutra on the Perfection of Wisdom, it was created by a female Tibetan yogi Machig Lapdron. It includes Tantra, Phowa Dharma, and envisions. Practitioners who have to realize wisdom of emptiness are qualified to perform this dharma. If not, there will be no achievement in performing this dharma. Moreover, practitioners have to attain Yoga and Anuttarayoga Tantra before they can practice it. When performing Chod, the yidam is Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva who is not some princess of a king as you may believe. That belief is only a tale. Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva is an ancient Buddha reborn. An ancient Buddha appeared long before the human civilization; it existed before modern human civilization. Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva has obtained Buddhahood. Meanwhile he has vowed great compassion, so he has manifested as Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva to help and liberate sentient beings. We also called Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva as fearless Bodhisattva. It is because those people have attained wisdom of emptiness will not fear of being hurt. There is even no time to save sentient beings. How come you’d feel sentient being would hurt you?

When performing Chod, practitioners will envision their fleshy bodies are transformed to nectar which can feed sentient beings from ghost and hell realms. As these sentient beings enter the venue, they will see their favorite food when they were alive. But what they eat is actually the nectar which can eliminate their greediness, anger and ignorance and purify their minds. Afterwards, they will be able to listen to the teachings of Buddha Dharma. When performing Chod, practitioners have to remove all the protection objects from their bodies, including protection wheels and Buddhas’ pictures. Chod Dharma can help those deceased who had not learned, cultivated, or even heard of Buddha Dharma to be reborn in the good realms or even in the Heaven Realm, if their offspring earnestly prayed for them. If they had cultivated Buddha Dharma or their karma was not heavy, Chod can help them to be reborn in the pure land. Chod is especially helpful for those sentient beings in the Ghost Realm and Rakshasas.

The meaning of liberating sentient beings is twofold. One means to ascend from the suffering ocean of reincarnation and the other means to deliver to the other shore of the suffering ocean. According to Great Treasury of Scriptures, the merits of helping a deceased will be distributed six-seventh to the one who seeks help and one-seventh to the deceased. Why is it one-seventh to the deceased? Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche asked the ordained practitioners at site whether they heard of the way the merits are distributed. Whether they were taught in the Buddhist college? They said no. Buddhist classics of Exoteric Buddhism indeed don’t explain it. Moreover, why would Buddha Sakyamuni walk seven steps when he was just born? There were some reasons for these. Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche then gave the following enlightenment. All the descriptions in sutras, words said and things done by Buddha Sakyamuni are relevant to sentient beings. The Buddha had taught all Buddhist to abide precepts. One of the precepts is not to lie. So the Buddha would never lie to us. If you don’t even trust the Buddha, who will you trust?

Merely after Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche attained Tantric Dharma does he really know the reason why it is one seventh, as mentioned in the Buddhist Sutra. According to Dharmalaksana School, you may get some understanding about that human beings have eye-consciousness, ear-consciousness, nose-consciousness, tongue-consciousness, body-consciousness, mind-consciousness, the seventh consciousness, Manas consciousness, and the eighth consciousness, Alaya-Consciousness. Your eyes like to see the good, your ears like to hear the good, your body likes to wear good cloths, and this is because the eyes, ears, nose, tongue, body, and mind have feelings to the external world. So Manas consciousness creates reactions that would be stored in Alaya-Consciousness then, just like the computer stores the data in the memory. Hence, the six sevenths are referring to the six organs, namely your eyes, ears, nose, tongue, body, and mind. Attending puja can purify the six roots, namely our eyes, ears, nose, tongue, body, and mind. Therefore the attendees gain the six sevenths of the benefit. As for the beings of ghost realms, they merely have Alaya-Consciousness left. And the one seventh of the benefit means salvaging ghosts’ attachments in Alaya-Consciousness. Therefore, the deceased could gain the one seventh of the benefit. The above-mentioned is the saying of Exoteric Buddhism. In Tantra, it would be explicated from the view of Subtle Channels. But you can not be told now.

You may say Tantra is so secret, wondering why you can’t be told. Tantra is not secret. The case is just like an elementary student wants to comprehend a university professor’s study. Is the elementary student able to understand it? Is the university professor able to let the student comprehend what he is studying about? For the elementary student, what the university professor study is very secret. As for Tantra, without achieving the required attainment, one would not be transmitted. Nor does Tantra be publicly transmitted. There is the saying: the dharma cannot be heard by the third person.

How do happiness and suffering come? First, they are made by you. Second, they are from your attachment, between your thoughts, that leads to the distinction between happiness and suffering. Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche, since his childhood, has not liked to eat sweet potato. His mother, in order to let him eat sweet potato, once only offered him sweet potato, rice, and a raw egg for a meal. As a result, Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche had rice and the egg only, and left the sweet potato. At that time Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche had not known the reason. It was not until the second time Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche performed solitary retreat practice that Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche got to know that: In one of Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche’s previous lives, Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche was born in Yunnan. Yunnan now has not been developed and was even much poorer in ancient time. Before, the main food there was sweet potato and corn. At that time, Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche had sweet potato for every meals and just got tired of it. Therefore, the feeling has just been kept from then to even the current life. Including corn, Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche does not like it much, either.
Before, in Taiwan and Hong Kong, it was very popular to buy grilled corn to eat when people went to the cinema. At that time, even when Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche’s friend bought the grilled corn, Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche only got two bites and no more. Also one time when Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche conducted a solitary retreat practice, almost every meal was offered with sweet potato. Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche did not eat it and therefore got hungry for meals. However, due to needing energy to conduct the retreat practice, Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche ate it in the end. This clinging feeling also let Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche suffered. From the case it could be seen that we like or dislike about food is related to our previous lives. It is the image left from previous lives. But due to a mist exists between cascading lives, we just forget in the current life, while we still have the attachment. Therefore, in this life, what we like and dislike is also the cause and effect.

Death is a taboo topic for many people, and also some people improperly think it is superstitious to cultivate Buddhism. Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche just has a follower whose younger sister considers his brother superstitious. Many followers’ family members would tell them don’t be too superstitious. In fact, Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche never asks his followers to offer him their house, how could they be regarded as superstitious? Talking nonsense without verifying, they are just slandering the Buddha. Talking about it, Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche deeply believes that, without Buddhas and Bodhisattvas abiding in the world, human beings would have been the dying race. As human beings have done so much evil, were it not for Buddhas and Bodhisattvas’ salvaging, human beings could not have lived in the realm of human. Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche knows how good Buddha Dharma is and also obtains the benefit from Buddha Dharma. Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche would feel sorry if not telling you this. After Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche tells you, if you don’t believe, it is you who are wrong.

In this moment, someone’s mobile phone just rang. Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche enlightened that Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche could accept noisy children, but Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche couldn’t accept the mobile phone’s ringing. During the process of conducting dharma ritual, this piping sound is very awful. Once, when Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche conducted Phowa dharma ritual for the decease, Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche found that the deceased generated some bad thoughts when hearing tinkling sound of metal bell. Although the deceased’s daughter is Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche’s follower, her elder brother found a Taoist who rang the bell and recited the Sutra beside the deceased in the meanwhile. It was fortunate that Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche saw it and hurriedly placed a call, asking them to stop the Taoist. Otherwise, the Taoist would just cause harm to the deceased. We ought to remember that don’t make this kind of sound beside the dying people. When a person is at the point of dying, this kind of sound is just like thunder for them. Again, on the spot, someone’s mobile phone rang. Hearing this, Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche enlightened that: “You may explain that you forgot to turn off your mobile phone. However, if you were really so busy, you could have not come to attend puja! Normally people would turn off their mobile phone when they are in an important place. If you attended puja with reverent mind, you would not have forgotten to turn off the phone. Thereafter, don’t excuse yourselves.

Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche has deep faith in the law of cause and effect. You say that you believe in the law of cause and effect. However, you usually believe it when it comes to major issues. On the other hand, Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche, with his current attainment, pays attention to every cause and effect meticulously, fearing for creating any evil cause by accident. In fact, everything is the manifestation of cause and effect. For example, if you take someone’s belonging without his or her permission, you will commit a theft. If a government official is stingy and accepts treats from others, he or she will commit a theft as well. In Japan, a government official will be convicted if someone buys him or her a coffee to discuss work-related issues. However, people think that it is fine to be treated with a meal. They don’t consider it corruption as long as they don’t go somewhere else for drinking after the meal. Nevertheless, government officials have salaries given by citizens. What makes them eligible for extra treats? Judging from the law of cause and effect, what they do is committing a theft.

Nothing in the world is fixed or unchangeable. Everything changes constantly and this is impermanent. Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche makes preparation for his death around the clock because of his deep faith in the death and impermanence. You attendees do not think that you may die at any time and fail to contemplate on your whereabouts after death. As stated in the Sutra of Bodhisattva Ksitigarbha’s Fundamental Vows, one who likes to eat meat will fall into the hell after death. Do not say that you have not committed any evil deeds. When you were in your mother’s womb, your mother feared that you would not have enough nutrition and thereby ate meat. What she ate was what you absorbed. After you were delivered, you continued to eat meat and kill lives. The fact that you are sick, have an inharmonious family, and have got someone having affairs with your spouse is manifestation of your cause and effect. Do not think that you are simply unlucky. Don’t think that you won’t go to hell. Whether you suffer in your final months will determine your condition after death. One who suffers a great deal before death actually shows a predicting sign for him to fall into the hell. For example, if one suffers a lot from numerous medical treatments such as surgeries and tube insertion and passed away after being tortured, he or she will most certainly fall into hell after death. Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche, who began to help the sentient beings in 1995, rarely sees people die peacefully without suffering before their deaths. Therefore, when believers come to seek an audience with Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche for their family’s medical conditions, Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche will advise them not to have any desires for this life but to pray for going to a better place in their future lives because Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche knows that the patient will not have much time living.

Some of you came to the puja for your family member that just passes away. Others came for their spouses. Whatever reason you have, Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche did not search for you or place any ads, except for the newspaper announcement of this year’s great puja in June. All of you came on your own initiatives. Maybe you would say that your friend told you to come. However, you could have refused him or her. As there are 1360 attendees in today’s puja, it is the Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, your deceased relatives and friends, and your karma creditors that brought you here. In other words, you must have attended similar tantric pujas in your previous lifetimes. Performing a Chod puja for over 1000 attendees simultaneously is something that you won’t see in other centers, nor do other people dare to do so. Someone hopes that the puja can be held on another day, a time that is more convenient to him. Why can’t the puja be held for one particular individual? Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche said, “Have you offered 1 or 2 million NTD?” Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche did not take your money, so you will have to listen to Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche. Why does it take so many people to attend the puja? It is because the power derived from the congregated minds is tremendous.

Why is all the talk before the puja? It is to enable you to have a correct attitude. Do not have any more doubt. Whether Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche can release souls from purgatory is Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche’s business. Only His Holiness the Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang, the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas know about Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche’s attainment. You do not have the qualification to doubt about it. According the Buddhist scriptures, when one is in the intermediate state, i.e. the Ghost Realm, his sensibility is 100 times stronger than a human being. As he does not have a human body anymore, he will not be influenced by his eyes, ears, nose, tongue, and body. All the being has is its consciousness, so he is more sensitive. Whether the practitioner can help or salvage the beings, the ghosts know perfectly. Therefore, when Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche began to propagate the Buddhist teachings in 1996, Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche did not dare to accept other people’s prostrations as His Holiness the Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang did not say so. When people did prostrations to Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche, Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche would shift aside. Now with the ability to benefit the sentient beings, Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche then accepts prostrations on the Dharma throne. Without the ability, the Dharma protectors will pull you off. Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche also reminds the ordained attendees: If you are incapable of repaying the sentient beings, do not accept other people’s prostrations as you will have to repay them eventually.

Your admittance to today’s puja is completely free of charge, as required by Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche. It also depends on you whether you want to make offerings or not. Since Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche began to hold Chod pujas in 1997, the number of attendees has been growing. Now, even the Buddhist center, which is 300 pings in area, are packed up. On the other hand, Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche’s health condition remains stable. It shows that Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche is benefiting the sentient beings in accordance with the Buddhist teachings.

During the previous weekend, a female believer came to seek an audience with Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche. She was a Chinese medicine doctor. In the beginning, her husband had no faith in Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche and merely stayed behind in distance, on his knees. Later on, her husband found Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche’s advice interesting and came forward. Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche knew that he was not easy to be subdued, and thereby let the female believer to feel Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche’s pulses. She was astonished when she took Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche’s pulses. Although Richen Dorjee Rinpoche was over 60 years old, his pulses felt like those of a 30-year-old. Then, Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche turned to the male believer. As his age was 40, his pulses would feel like those of a 40-year-old or older. Why can Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche have such pulses? It is because Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche has been learning the Buddhist teachings. The male believer was thereby convinced.

There is a person who helps you with such effort, so you should not have any doubt. Later, during the dharma conduction, regardless your purpose of coming here, as long as you attend this puja with a repentant mind, on behalf of those suffering sentient beings, and put down those unnecessary distracting thoughts and delusions, your relatives will attain the helps as well since they are among all sentient beings. Because each sentient being has its own causes and conditions, every sentient being was, is, and will be different in past generations of lives, this life, and future generations of lives, respectively. However, no matter which appearance a sentient being has, every sentient being all have the same undefiled self-nature, that is, the Buddha-nature. Human body is composed of many different elements; there are even many bacteria inside the body. There are many sentient beings inside your body. Therefore, do not say again that this body belongs to your own. In addition to helping those who are deceased, attending pujas will also help the sentient beings inside your own body.

You can see from the latest social news that parents and children quarreled with each other, some child killed his father, and some father killed his son. While a child blames his parents for not understanding him, how much does the child understand his parents? You think the body is yours. But if the body is yours, can you control it such that you will not feel hungry? When wanting to sleep, can you not sleep? The answer is no! When you want to sleep, you have no way to command your body not to sleep. And there are many parasites and cells in your body. You will not survive without them. Hence, the body is not yours. Do not attach to it. Your body is a Karma-Reward Body. Everything in your this life, such as what kind of job you will have, whether you are rich or not, what kind of things will happen to you, is all caused by what you had done in your previous lives and then revealed in this life. What you have done in this life will affect your future lives. We do not have to mention something in the future. For example, how you, as a young person, have lived now was affected by the things accumulated since you were a child. How you are doing now will also be known at your old age. Some people would say that one should play at any time one can and enjoy life as much as possible when one is young in case one cannot play and travel at one’s old age. Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche recalled that when he was young he almost did not go out to play, just worked diligently every day. And now, though being old, Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche still can go to many places and countries in this world. Actually, whether you can go to many places when you are old all depends on your blessings. If you enjoy life and exhaust all of your blessings at a young age, when you get old, you will suffer illnesses.

Because of cultivation practices from past generations of lives, Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche was able to attain accomplishments of the current level. Some people will ask how their past lives was; and Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche has never asked His Holiness the Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang about his own past lives. If you ask such questions, it indicates that you do not believe in the law of cause and effect. Some people will say that Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche could attain achievement because his capacity is good. In fact, every person’s capacity is the same; one’s achievement only depends on whether you have determined to accomplish it or not. Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche has over one thousand disciples and many employees, and several Buddhist centers. However, when His Holiness the Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang instructed Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche to perform retreats, Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche just immediately obeyed without saying any excuse. Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche could also said, “Can the retreat be postponed for a while?” Buddha dharma should be used practically for cultivation practices, and not be used for seeking blessings. If seeking blessings was useful, Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche would have just called His Holiness the Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang every day and asked for the blessings from His Holiness, who has been reincarnated for eight generations of lives; Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche would not have performed retreats, practiced Buddhism, and held pujas in such toilsome manner. Why did Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche still perform retreats, practice Buddhism, and hold pujas? It was because any accomplishment has to depend on one’s own effort. Unlike non-Buddhism which uses threatening ways, Buddhism uses analytical ways to tell you the truth of things. As for whether you want to follow it or not, the decision is yours to make.

You cannot attain achievement now, because you have not deeply believed in the law of cause and effect and have not determined to do so. If you deeply believed in the law of cause and effect, your behaviors or words would have been very different than what you have now. Some people think they are very busy now and do not have time to practice Buddhism and it would be fine to wait until they have finished their school studies and gotten married before they practice Buddhism. This indicates that they do not deeply believe in the law of cause and effect. Actually, one should not wait to practice Buddhism. You should practice Buddhism starting from this moment. Do not think that you can get married first and then gradually change your spouse. It is possible that you will be changed by your spouse first before you can change him or her.

The “Heart Sutra” has stated that there is no fear. Why is there no fear? It is because one believes in the law of cause and effect. If you know that everything is the manifestation of karmic retribution, you should just accept it. Some people are afraid of ghosts because they do not have compassion. If you are willing to give your best things to others, will you still be afraid that they will hurt you? Just as Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche, when conducting the Chod puja, will transform his own body into nectar for the sentient beings in the ghost realm to eat. So Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche does not fear that he will be harmed.

Then, Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche began to conduct the auspicious Chod puja.

After conducting dharma, His Eminence Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche requested the attended everyone to sit straight and then compassionately bestowed blessings upon beings with the dharma instrument of human shinbone which is given by His Holiness the Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang. Because Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche had ever enlightened in the before that while he bestows blessings upon beings with this dharma instrument, actually Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche gives own virtues to beings. As a result, the attended everyone was very grateful and in chorus thanked His Eminence Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche. They also repented that they cannot requite the guru’s grace. Furthermore, they make Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche repeatedly take care of them and bestow blessings. Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche then enlightened: through the blessings, it blows away all of your declining, dirty, complaining and bad atmosphere. However, if you go out and continue eating meat, then this blessings are invalid to you.

Then Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche enlightened that he saw the hell of blood pool while conducting the dharma just now. One who had had abortion in this life and the last life would go down to the hell. Not only those who had had abortion but also the abortion-drug sellers would go down the hell. Those who had had abortion would have much illness, short-living, unable to fulfill own requesting, and have incomplete family in the life. They will go down the hell after death. Why do so many modern girls have uterine fibroid? That is because they have many sexual partners or had abortion in the last live. Some have antenatal examination while pregnanting. When they find the child is unhealthy, definitely the doctors would ask them to abort the child. They think that it is just one or two months of pregnancy and they abort while it is still the embryo, not the fetus. In fact, the spiritual consciousness enters at the moment of fertilization. The spiritual consciousness has karmic connection with you and then enters. Some disciples of Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche had examination and just know the child had diseases, such as Down syndrome. They asked Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche what to do? Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche knows the “causes” and then  can really help them solve the problem. So they did not abort the child. The result is that their child are very normal, super normal, after birth. It is not depicted in the Buddha sutras for worshiping baby spirit or someone tricked by baby spirit. You should not think it is fine after finishing consciousness transferring today and then continue to indulge own living. The consciousness transferring is just to help the dead child to eliminate the hatred and hindrance between you. You do the evil karma if you abort. But the fruit of retribution still exists but the taste is just altered. You need to continue diligently learning Buddhism. If the retribution of doing those things is vanished as such, then you have no good fruit for participating today’s puja.

Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche enlightened: because you participate the puja today, there is a period of time for you to diligently learn Buddhism to change the taste of the fruit before the evil fruit ripes. In fact, it is depicted in the Buddha sutra that when you do the evil karma, your virtue would consume. The consumption does not refer to “2-1=1” but it refers to “2-2=0”. Your virtue needs to be accumulated again with diligently learning Buddhism. Some disciples thought that Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche helped them to cure the disease and solve the problem and they also had recited and prostrated. Once the arrogance is aroused, the originally accumulated virtue would be stopped. So-call diligence does not refer that you can do how many times of reciting or prostration per day. You are not ordained and cannot spend so much time reciting sutras and prostrating everyday. But you should repeatedly concentrate on this thing without giving up and continuously do the Buddha dharma taught by the guru.

When you do something bad, your virtue is consumed very quickly. You should not think that it is seemingly good now and you still have the life. That is your residual virtues. Virtues, like money, could be used up but also could be earned back. When you repeatedly attend the puja with the pure heart, it helps you to accumulate virtues for listening Buddha dharma and changing your problem.

Some participators are for the sake of their spouses or families to attend today’s consciousness-transferring puja. You should not think that you had helped them to be transferred consciousness and there is nothing to do with you thereafter. In fact, they are your benefactors. We owe Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, guru and beings the great kindness. Only by learning Buddhism could we return the kindness. The karmic creditors are your benefactors. Because of them, you would present here today. If it were not them, you would have gone enjoying life early. So you have to thank them. Lord Jigten Sumgon had said that if the beings’ diseases or things are solved, they would think they are fine. Then they start to enjoy and do not diligently learn Buddhism. Consequently, the problem would return to them. There are so many cases happened here. Some disciples’ diseases became better after learning Buddhism. They thought the illness was cured and no longer learned Buddhism. The diseases then returned to them again. You can see many stories in the Glorious Jewel Buddhist center. It is a center which clearly makes you know the showing of causes and effects. It can make you see the showing of Buddha dharma.

Rinchen Dorjee Rinchen enlightened so much today. It is not to request you to learn Buddhism here. It is overcrowded here. Last year, Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche had proposed for retirement to His Holiness the Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang twice. As to Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche’s age, it should be the khenpo to extend dharma now. But His Holiness the Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang disapproved Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche’s request for retirement. As a result, Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche enlightened, he would just repeatedly teach you with Buddha dharma until you truly listen inside. You are expected to learn Buddhism well. The attended everyone chorusly thanked His Eminence Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche for never giving up any beings.

If your family hindered you while you want to learn Buddhism, you temporarily cannot come to learn Buddhism, though. You do not need to verbally debate but must clearly contemplate in your mind as well as make determination. If the families were not owing to each other, they would not be families in the life. Karmic creditors are all inside a family. If some families prevent you from dieting vegetarian foods, you can just throw up to their sight! When Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche initially dieted vegetarian foods, the families also denied. After several times of throw-up of the eaten meat, the families felt disgusting too and no longer stopped Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche from dieting vegetarian foods. By this way, the social party are less too. If you really want to arouse heart to learn Buddhism, firstly you need to have confidence and believe that one day you eventually can learn. You must diligently, intently and unceasingly do and you must make it in the future. Secondly, it needs to reflect on yourself seriously. If your families worry about you for learning Buddhism, there must be something you have not uncorrected. You family know you most. If you, as they see, casually have tempers like before, they cannot see what benefits you while learning Buddhism. They naturally disagree with you to continue learning Buddhism.

Time quickly goes by. It is July now. In a blink of an eye, a year would be passed and we lose one year in this world. Some people may say that one who lives to the age of 80 can be called long-life. How could it be long-life? Since the living lifespan is less and less, it should be call “short-life.” The worldly people speak inversely. There are so much enlightenment today since July is coming. The correct concept should be given to everyone.
